About Angel In The Fields
Angel In The Fields is a Sam Smith's pub in London at 37 Thayer St, open daily. It runs a digital detox policy: phones, laptops and iPads are not allowed, and neither is swearing, which suits visitors who want a screen-free drink. The bar serves the brewery's own beers, wines, spirits and ciders, with Taddy's Lager and Double Four Lager on tap. Dark wood panelling, furniture and beams run throughout, and stained glass windows with a floral design line the front, with the bar backing onto the window wall. A fire is lit in the pub. Upstairs on the first floor, a dining room serves a British pub menu that includes fish and chips and schnitzel.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the dark wood panelling, beams and stained glass windows, with a fire going on quiet afternoons. Close behind are the friendly bar staff and the Sam Smiths beers, including the Double Four Lager, called a nice session lager. Upstairs, diners call the crust on the fish and chips heavenly and the schnitzel tasty, and one liked the crispy onion rings, though another found the mash heavy. The no phones rule struck one reviewer as an interesting digital detox. Complaints center on prices that have risen in recent years and on service. One reviewer describes awful service and lager in plastic glasses that were not full pints, and another found the bartender grumpy amid crowds of tourists. One reviewer recalls having the whole upstairs to themselves with the fire lit.

“If you like lager in plastic glasses that aren't a full pint go here. Need to be local or posh to get a glass in there. Awful service. Thanks but no thanks.”

“My wife and I are from Texas here on vacation. (Or as yall say “holiday.”) Great service it’s nice to be able to seat outside and the prices are reasonable. If we’re ever back in London I highly recommend. The staff and overall public here are amazing. Highly recommend.”

“Friendly barman. Lovely decor. Unfortunately in recent years Sam Smiths have put their prices up and whilst this is in an affluent part of London, you're looking at £5-9 a pint depending on what you get. 15 years ago the brewery bitter used to be £1.80! It is a lovely pub though so still worth a visit.”

“A pleasant pub. Lots of wood and stained glass.”

“I visited almost 10 years ago with my girlfriend, who is now the mother of my two children. It was an amazing experience. We had the whole upstairs to ourselves, and they even lit the fire which made the evening feel incredibly special. It’s a memory we still talk about today.”
