About New Capital Chinese Restaurant
Cantonese-style cooking is the focus at New Capital Chinese Restaurant, a Chinese restaurant at 5-9 Nelson St in Chinatown, Liverpool. Crispy noodles lead the menu, and lobster with spring onion and ginger sits alongside them for anyone who wants a seafood dish. Sweet and sour pork arrives with pickled shallots, which gives a familiar order its own accompaniment. A banquet is also offered for diners who would rather work through a set menu than order dish by dish. The restaurant is walk-in, with no booking step before you sit down.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the crispy noodles at this Cantonese restaurant, with one saying they would go back just to order them. Close behind are the sweet and sour pork finished with pickled shallots, the lobster with spring onion and ginger, and a banquet one diner calls sublime. Another praises the curry sauce and crisp, fluffy chips. Many mention fast, hot food, large portions, and friendly staff who know regulars, with the owner remembering faces and chatting with customers. Prices are repeatedly described as cheap or fair. The caveats are specific: one reviewer found the Singaporean stir fry noodles too salty and stuck together, and the salt and pepper siu mai too salty, while another noted the noise from a lively neighboring group made conversation hard. One reviewer gave a single star, describing a staff member as rude over the restaurant's own mistake and calling the food very average, though the beer was nice. Several diners say the food arrived within minutes, and one describes being seated after a short wait on a busy New Year day.

“Great traditional cantonese food. Loved their touch in using pickled shallots in their sweet and sour pork dish - they raised the dish up to a new level. Lobster with spring onion and ginger, yum. Super friendly staff.”

“Extremely rude ( one member off staff) for THEIRE mistake/ issue bad service. Deserving of 1* food was very average at best. Beer was nice 👍🏼 Wouldn’t return and wouldn’t recomend. Thanks”

“Best Chinese meal I think we’ve ever had, everything was delicious, hot and came out fast. The curry sauce was absolutely gorgeous, even the chips which are often not up to much as you’d expect, were crispy, fluffy, fat chips. Lovely atmosphere, felt very family like with staff knowing many of the customers well. Will absolutely be back here soon!”

“This is hands down my favourite restaurant in Liverpool. The food is always top quality — fresh, full of flavour, and beautifully presented. But what really sets this place apart is the owner. They genuinely make an effort to build a relationship with every customer, always remembering faces and taking the time to have a chat. It gives the place such a warm, welcoming atmosphere that you just don’t find everywhere. Whether you’re local or just visiting Liverpool, I couldn’t recommend this restaurant enough”
