Customer Review Summary

Fish and chips cooked fresh is what most reviewers praise, with medium and large cod called lovely and both the fish and the chips described as crispy. The curry sauce comes close behind, called tasty by one reviewer and singled out with a clapping emoji by another, and one diner found the scampi and chips nicely cooked. Portions run large. Three diners who each ordered small chips say there was enough for five or six people, and another who ordered a large portion of chips says a regular would have been plenty. Friendly staff and the seating inside are mentioned as a bonus for a takeaway. The recurring complaint is reheated chips. One longtime local says they now get chips that look reheated, and another describes what looked like yesterday's chips, barely warm mushy peas and lukewarm curry sauce, leaving half the bag. One reviewer feeding nine says staff asked what each person wanted and packed everything into one large box.

“Sometimes I feel it's personal..when I first visited this shop it was fresh food...ive been living here for alot of years an now I get served re heated chips ..I used to be a manager in McDonald's so I know how to cook chips or know what they are supposed to look like. You could do better.”

“We live in Yapton and we had a flyer delivered to our door last week, and we decided to give a try as it’s cheaper than all other local fish and chip shops. We normally chose the one in Middleton on Sea, but it’s £2 cheaper per large cod at The Wick Fryer. We are very pleased with our food, both fish and chips are crispy, curry sauce is tasty. The owner told us he hasn’t put the price up for 4 years. Definitely worth trying and traveling.”

“After a gruelling 4hr drive, and quick freshen up i headed to the nearest chippy. Looking forward to some chips, mushy peas and curry sauce. Was very disappointed at what looked liked yesterdays reheated chips, barely warm mushy peas and curry sauce wasn't much warmer. Left half the bag.... The friendly staff softened the blow.”
