Customer Review Summary
The complaints are specific. One reviewer says a delivery order took far longer than estimated and arrived with missing curry sauce and water, hard chips and burnt-tasting mushy peas. Another describes pale, soggy fish and cold, hard chips, a replacement that was not much better, and later reports symptoms of food poisoning. A third says sausages were missing, the oil tasted old and the curry sauce fell short after a suspected change of owners. One reviewer notes that cards are accepted only through Just Eat ordering, and a delivery driver who apologised for a late order and added extra drinks to the bag closes one account.

“Best chippy we've been to in a long time. Staff very friendly, and helpful. Food tasted amazing, and the shop and outside area was very well laid out, open and immaculate. Will be returning here as our regular spot moving forward.”

“Shaftesbury Fisheries is the best fish and chips I have ever had. The quality is always spot on, and my last order was especially impressive, the fish was huge, freshly cooked, and really tasty. The batter is crisp and flavourful, the chips perfect and not greasy, and it’s consistently reliable. I also love that they sell Ben Shaw's pop, which is a nice touch. The independent delivery service is friendly and efficient too. And very fast. Just wish they weren’t Just Eat only for ordering with cards. I’ve tried other places, but this is the one I keep coming back to. Highly recommend.”

“This is my usual go to chippy and I've collected from here many times before. However, last Sunday, I decided to order delivery via Just Eat. The estimated time for delivery said 54 minutes. It ended up taking two hours. I went for the Nana Dee's tea time special with curry sauce and a bottle of water. I also ordered some mushy peas. When the delivery driver arrived, he apologised for the delay and said he'd put a couple of extra drinks in the bag. When I delved into the bag, I found there was no curry sauce or water. I tucked into the food to find the majority of the chips were hard and almost cold. The mushy peas had a burnt taste to them so I couldn't eat those or the chips. The fish was, as always, tasty and hot. I was really disappointed as I'd been looking forward to a chippy tea. I'm not sure what went wrong on this occasion as I know this is not the usual standard of food or service when I go in to order. Had this have been my first time ordering, I would have given a rating of one star. But, because this was an anomaly, I have taken into account my usual experiences, but wanted to flag this so that it doesn't happen again. I will stick to collecting my food from the shop in future, though.”

“Standards have slipped a lot here. Looks like potentially new owners as before this was the go to place for Fish and chips. Went today and was all new staff. The service was fine and seemed friendly enough but when got home our sausages were missing out of the order. The fish was acceptable but the chips were horrid. Oil tasted like it hadn’t been changed for a few days and the curry sauce was not chip shop standard! Such a shame as the previous owners kept the standards so high. I wouldn’t be in a rush to give them another go.”

“Extremely Disappointing ... Ordered fish & chips Wednesday evening and the portion size was good however the fish was light-coloured (pale) and soft (soggy) instead of golden and crispy. I sampled the white of the fish which seemed to look and taste ok. It was the chips that were the real deal breaker for me likely being the worst I've ever had. They were not "chip shop chips" they were cold and hard inside and out as though left and reheated. I had no choice but to return the entire order. Customer service was passable offering a replacement and the option of additional sides over a refund or discount however the second portion was not much better than the first. The batter was crispier but the white of the fish alone was watery and off-putting and the chips albeit warm were overcooked and inedible. I contemplated contacting the takeaway again and leaving a review but held off only for symptoms of food poisoning to occur. I phoned yesterday to relay this information and to request a possible refund only to be met with complete disrespect and unprofessionalism. I do not recommend this takeaway and will not be ordering again.”
