About Bengal Brasserie

Bengal Brasserie is a Bengali restaurant in Leeds, on Merrion Way, where the dining area has comfy sofas and diners are offered a complimentary drink. The kitchen is led by a chef with over 30 years of experience and cooks Indian and Bangladeshi dishes, from chicken tikka and balti to fish plates and chef specials. Handi gosht, chicken biryani and korai chicken are among the mains, and a pickle tray comes to the table. The interior is dark and modern in style. The team is happy to leave a break between courses, so a meal can be paced across the evening. Walk-ins are taken without a booking.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the friendly, welcoming staff, who they say made a graduation dinner and a Mother's Day meal feel special, including one member of staff who bought a child an Easter egg. The food follows close behind, with the chicken biryani, chicken balti and handi gosht named as highlights, and one diner calling the naan among the best they have tried. Another praises the pickle tray, and the chefs came out to ask one table how the meal was. Walk-ins on a Saturday night and just before closing after an arena event were seated and served quickly. The main criticism comes from one reviewer who found the food not authentic Bangladeshi: the achar chicken had no achar flavour, the korai chicken lacked the heat a wife had asked for, and the food took a long time to arrive. That reviewer also found the room too dark. A complimentary drink after a meal and a short break between courses on request are among the details diners recall.

“My husband and I went here for dinner as we were in Leeds for a night away and fancied a curry. We made a reservation because we did a random search online for nice curry houses and this one had great reviews. Honestly, if we find ourselves back in Leeds, we will 100% be coming again. The food was SO GOOD. The staff were genuinely so sweet and lovely and the ambiance was perfect. Honestly, you could come here and feel welcomed with a family, a solo date night, meal with friends and it would suit any occasion. The food was exceptional, however, I'd like to point out that the naan bread was truly one of the best I have ever tried. My husband and kept saying how good it was 24hours after - which is always a good sign for us!”

“Not authentic Bangladeshi food. Im not talking about being spicy. I like low spice bit still its not authentic Bangladeshi food. I ordered the achar chicken. There was no flavour of the achar. Korai chicken was somewhat better but still not enough spice even for me and certainly not for my wife. She had specifically asked for hot and spice. Service was really slow. Took approximately 30 to 35 minutes for the food to arrive. The staff was really good though. Atmosphere was too dark but very "Bangladeshi Chinese" restaurant vibes. Will not go again and not recommended.”
