Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often come for the buffet, and the lamb curry is the dish they single out, described as tender and falling apart with flavour. Close behind are the pakoras and chicken tikka at the starter stage, and the garlic naan, which is made fresh and brought to the table. Fresh poppadoms arrive as soon as diners sit down. One reviewer praised a Butter Paneer curry cooked in an authentic way, and another got a special vegetarian dish made for the table. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, with nothing too much trouble, and several describe the restaurant and toilets as clean. Value is called reasonable. The caveats are small: one reviewer finds the buffet smaller than the big mainstream ones, and another wanted sauces for the poppadoms at the table rather than at the buffet. A visitor from Luxembourg and friends at a surprise birthday meal who returned the next evening both describe feeling welcomed.

“Beautiful restaurant, fresh, clean and very well presented. We were given the choice of buffet or A la Carte. We went for the buffet, dishes were fresh, flavourful and piping hot. Pakora section very good. Poppadoms freshly made and placed on the table after we were seated was a welcomed touch but would have liked sauces at the table instead of at the buffet for them. The garlic naan was lovely! Ice-cream and sauce to finish. In all, food was good, service good, establishment beautiful, toilets spotless. Prices were worth it and extremely reasonable. Worth a visit. I used to go with family since the 1980s, they definitely moved with the times to keep current.”

“Absolutely exceptional meal at Gulnar. We went for the buffet and I genuinely couldn’t recommend it enough. Fresh poppadoms were brought to the table as soon as we arrived, then we moved on to the starters. The buffet is a little smaller than some of the bigger, mainstream buffets, but the quality is on another level and it had everything you actually want. The chicken pakora, vegetable pakora, chicken tikka and chicken chaat were all perfect. Everything was fresh, tasty and incredibly tender. The same standard carried through to the mains. They rotate seven different curries and every single one we tried was delicious. The quality of the meat really stood out, so tender and clearly very good quality. The lamb in particular was outstanding, absolutely falling apart with so much flavour. Lamb is something a lot of curry restaurants can get wrong, but this was genuinely some of the best I have had. Another lovely touch is that you choose a naan and they make it fresh and bring it straight to your table. We went for the garlic naan and it was incredible — so fresh and soft, with delicate bread but still indulgent and the perfect amount of garlic butter. As good as the food was, the service deserves just as much praise. Every single member of staff we dealt with was attentive, friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much hassle and we were made to feel really well looked after throughout the whole meal. Exceptional food, fantastic service and brilliant value for the quality. We will 100% be returning”

“1st time being here and it was a 10/10. We had the buffet week 6 and everything was amazing. Staff were so friendly, chatty and nothing was a problem. Fresh, hot and super tasty. Clean and smells amazing. Side note toilets are so clean! This is a big thing for me so 10/10. Will definitely be back.”

“Don’t be put off by the appearance from the street - this is a large restaurant with great food and very friendly service. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Some of us chose from the menu and others had the buffet, which had a great selection of dishes and was good value for money. We went on a Monday evening, but the buffet was still on and the restaurant busy enough to feel alive. The food was delicious; the lamb tender and lean. Overall, great.”
