About Delhi's Winter

Delhi's Winter is an Indian restaurant in Linlithgow, on Blackness Rd, and it has won the award for best Indian restaurant in Scotland. The menu pairs street food with South Indian dishes, including masala dosa and Goan fish curry. A tandoori section adds chicken tikka, lamb chops and a mixed tandoori, and there are chicken dishes such as Methi Malai chicken, Chettinad chicken and chilli chicken. Garlic naan sits alongside the curries. The chef adjusts the spice level to each diner's preference, so heat can be set to taste. The restaurant is small, so the dining room fills quickly.

Customer Review Summary

Diners most often return for the tandoori dishes and the samosas, with the chicken tikka, lamb chops and a mixed tandoori platter singled out, while crispy vegetable samosas get repeated mentions. Close behind are the curries, including Rajasthani lamb, Methi Malai chicken, Chettinad chicken, karahi paneer and a well balanced Goan fish curry, plus a masala dosa starter and garlic naan. Reviewers describe the flavours as authentic and different from the usual, with some noting the chef matched their preferred spice level. The host is named again and again for a warm welcome, and many call the value excellent. The main complaint is service on a busy night: one diner describes slow gaps between starters and mains, plates nearly cleared while still eating, and having to pay the bill at the till. Another finds the portions small. The most common closing note is a host who upgraded one couple's wine for a better evening.

“What an unexpected and absolute delight! Authentic and wonderful freshly made Indian cuisine (with highlights of South India), served with a warm welcome and generous hospitality by Rehman. Not to be missed if you are in the Edinburgh area!”

“Had a wonderful meal here again. We had a masala dosa starter (absolutely delicious and one of the best I have tried), and very tasty crispy vegetable samosas, followed by mains of Rajasthani Lamb and Methi Malai chicken. Get the garlic naan - it’s phenomenal. The flavours in the dishes are amazing and so different from the usual run of the mill dishes from other places. Rehman is a great host and very welcoming and friendly. The restaurant is really nicely decorated and it gets busy, which just shows how popular and well liked it is. We live in the USA but come home to Scotland once a year to visit family and this is our second time at Delhi’s Winter as we pass through Linlithgow on our way to Edinburgh Airport and we will try to come back here every time we visit home. I wish we could take the food back to Texas with us! There is nothing in Houston that measures up to the great good and ambience we have found here in Delhis Winter. Sorry, only took one photo - we ate everything before we remembered!”

“Food here is exceptionally tasty. However service poor and slow. Wasn’t offered any other drinks, plates tried to be taken away from table by kitchen staff whilst still eating, waited ages for bill ended up having to go pay it at the till. Waited long time between starters and mains. Would love to return however service is really off putting and the man who works at the till I found a bit rude to the younger assistant staff which made the vibe a bit uneasy. No issues with the food.”

“First time back sitting in the restaurant since having twins. We always enjoy the food so we have been ordering takeaways since the kids were born but reminded how much of a nice night it is to sit in the restaurant. Rehman offered excellent service from recommending the wine and upgrading our wine so we had a more enjoyable night. Rehman always goes out of his way to make you feel very welcome but tonight was on another level and he has a great demeanour with all of the other tables. We’ve enjoyed Mogli, Dishoom etc. but I would argue value for money Dehlis Winter is up there with the very best!”

“We’ve been coming here regularly for quite some time, and the food is always fantastic. The flavours are authentic, the portions are generous, and the atmosphere is always welcoming. A special mention to Rehman, who consistently provides excellent service. He’s friendly, attentive, and always makes us feel welcome whenever we visit. His professionalism and positive attitude are one of the reasons we keep coming back. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great Indian food and outstanding customer service!”
