About The Red Lion

On High St in Kettering, The Red Lion pairs a pub with a 32-seater restaurant serving British dishes. The menu includes pies, among them beef bourguignon, pork and black pudding, and steak pie, with a burger for anyone after something different. Dessert comes as a taster plate with a bit of each of five desserts and a coffee, so one order covers five puddings and a hot drink. Some diners are seated in the snug, and cocktails are on offer from the bar. The pub side keeps an open fire and a dartboard. A bubbles and boil night is also held here.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the food, and the burger comes up repeatedly, with one calling it among the best they have had and another noting a wife who finished hers in record time. Close behind are the pies, with a beef bourguignon pie praised for its perfect crust and red wine gravy, plus a steak pie and a pork and black pudding pie. Others name the truffle arancini, calamari, scotch egg, and crispy belly pork with red cabbage. A hanging swordfish and prawn skewer drew eyes across one table, and a five-dessert taster plate comes with coffee. Service is described as friendly and attentive, and the snug, the village setting, and a dog-friendly feel also earn mentions. The one recurring caveat is cost: one reviewer says locally sourced ingredients make it a little pricey, while others call the set price menu reasonable for the quality. Several say they are already planning a return, and one booked a luncheon for 22 people that the host called perfect from planning to the day itself.

“Stopped for lunch on the way back from Winterton at the Red Lion in Cranford which is a beautiful old pub full of character, with really charming décor that gives it a warm and inviting atmosphere. From the moment you arrive, the service is wonderful — genuinely polite, attentive, and friendly without being overbearing. We were seated in the snug which is lovely. The food is absolutely amazing and easily some of the best pub food around. The burger in particular was outstanding — easily one of the best I’ve had. You can really tell they focus on quality, and the fact that everything is locally sourced makes a big difference, even if it does make it a little on the pricey side. It’s also incredibly dog friendly, which adds to the relaxed and welcoming feel. Overall, a fantastic spot for great food and a proper pub experience — definitely worth a visit.”

“I booked a luncheon for 22 people to celebrate my mother’s life and my experience was absolutely top notch! From the planning ahead of time to the food and service day of, everything was absolutely PERFECT! Ash, Charleen, the Chef, and the rest of the staff were so kind and so attentive! The food was exquisite and the service amazing. I cannot recommend the Red Lion highly enough. Thank you to everyone at the Red Lion for your care and attention, I am so grateful!”

“Great food, drinks and service again. I'd particularly recommend the belly pork which is both crispy and chewy with tender pork, served with some of the best red cabbage I've had. The cocktails disappeared quickly and the range covers a range of tastes. The desserts include a taster plate with some of each of 5 desserts with a coffee. There's more than just a taster of each and is a great choice if you have any space left and can't make up your mind, but it's not a an option for the faint hearted. The service was attentive but also left us too it in perfect balance.”
