About The Pheasant Inn Keswick
The Pheasant Inn Keswick is a gastropub on Crosthwaite Rd in Keswick town centre, serving homemade food from a menu of 66 dishes. Steak comes with green peppercorn sauce, and the Sunday roast arrives with a large Yorkshire pudding, crispy potatoes, veg and gravy. Desserts are homemade too, including a sticky toffee pudding. Jennings beers are on the bar. Dogs are welcome, and a dedicated little dog menu means they get a meal of their own while their owners eat. Evening food is served in two sittings.

Customer Review Summary
Diners return most for the pies, with the beef pie, steak pie and chicken, leek and bacon pie all singled out as excellent. Close behind are the steaks, one served with green peppercorn sauce that a reviewer called game changing, and a Sunday roast with a massive yorkie and crispy potatoes. Stilton and broccoli soup, venison bourguignon and fish pie also draw praise, and desserts such as sticky toffee pudding, a chocolate brownie and an unusual crumble get a mention. Reviewers describe a cosy, warm pub with friendly staff, a good range of Jennings beers and a little dog menu. The main complaint comes from one diner whose medium rare rib-eye arrived extremely fatty and rare to blue, with poorly cooked chips and dry peas. Another reviewer was unhappy that mash costs extra. One reviewer notes evening food runs in two sittings and suggests booking the early one. Another mentions a Christmas cracker and chocolate mints arriving with the bill.

“Amazing we came here once before and we always remember how gorgeous the food was so we came back again on our next visit to the lakes and the food was beautiful again! The Christmas cracker and chocolate mints with the bill was a lovely touch too. The staff are lovely and friendly and always smiling, the pub has a lovely warm cosy feel. The steak pie is the best we have ever had. Thank you”

“We enjoyed a delicious meal here on our last night in Keswick. We wanted some local Cumbrian food in a traditional pub setting and this was spot on! It was a short walk from our hotel in Keswick town centre and absolutely worth it. We both very much enjoyed the beef pie - highly recommend. Our only niggle was having to pay extra for mash if you're not having chips or new potatoes, not sure why this would be but either way we enjoyed it. Nice veg selection too. We also indulged in desserts which were delicious - chocolate brownie and a sticky toffee sundae. Great portions and so good to have homemade, traditional food. If we're ever back in the area we will definitely visit again.”

“I was pretty disappointed with our meal here as I'd read so many lovely reviews and we really wanted a proper nice country pub meal. My partner ordered a medium rare rib-eye steak (£30) - I know rib-eye can be fatty but this particular piece was extremely fatty and the non-fatty parts were cooked on a level of rare to blue. When we mentioned it to the older waitress she said "ooooh it looks great to me, I love a good rare steak"... Not a particularly helpful or clever comment since he ordered it medium rare. I will say she did offer to flash it back through but my partner had cut it up so much trying to find edible bits that he didn't really think it would do much good. He then ordered a pudding and the waitress made a comment "Wow! He's made room for dessert after all that" which felt like a weird comment since he'd left most of his main meal. The chips were pretty poorly cooked too. I ordered the sausage, mash and veg which was okay, the peas tasted very dry but overall it was okay. A little disappointing again as we'd read such good reviews. To give the manager some credit, he knocked £4 off the bill but given we'd spent £75 (two main meals, one pudding and two pepsi max) it didn't really feel like much. We would however like to praise the young waitress who said it was her second shift. She was very polite and we could tell she was nervous but she did a great job.”

“Wonderful pub, with food that absolutely blew our minds. We had Homemade venison bourgignon, with fresh veg and chips. Then sticky toffee pudding. All hearty, home made, large portions, delicious. Very attentive service. When you think of a cosy pub with amazing food after a long walk in the lakes this is exactly where you want to go. One of the rare genuine local treats in keswick. We have found that a lot of the pubs have gone to ready made meals rather than fresh so this was a real gem. Will be returning on our next visit to the lakes.”
