Customer Review Summary
The complaints are frequent and detailed. Two reviewers describe waits of roughly an hour or more with no word on delays, one leaving before eating. Others report cold mash, carrots and toast, an all day breakfast with missing items and crumbled bacon, and a beef pie that was mostly gravy and earned a refund. Steaks arrived overcooked, chips ran out, and a carvery was down to gammon after a delivery failed. Several mention dinner plates left on the table between courses, and one reports flies, sticky tables and a food hygiene concern. One reviewer says a manager apologised and admitted the chef would not eat the plate sent out.

“Had the odd carvery and it has been mostly good in the past. The meat was always the best bit, followed by the mash and parsnips, swede etc. Usually the green veg was either mushy or not cooked enough, I suspect mostly frozen. A couple of months ago I had a refund as my beef pie was actually a gravy pie, with only two tiny bits of meat! Last evening they'd run out of chips! As many dishes have chips with them it left little choice. I appreciate it was over a bank Holiday, but seems a bit of bad ordering planning there. Especially as a month ago they said their order had not been delivered and they only had Gammon and no other meat to offer for the carvery, also the veg choice was poor too. We meet up with friends and overall its fine and the staff do their best, never had anyone being rude or unhelpful.”

“Ordered 1 meal and partner had soup cos of tooth problems. It took nearly an hour and not even notified when ordering any delay to be expected Staff rude and unhelpful. Finally got our food what a shock . The soup was so minimal that when staff was asked where's the rest they replied that's all your getting. When I received the all day breakfast items were missing. What did arrive was shocking the bacon crumbled in pieces like crust beans stone cold same as the toast which had a lump of butter on it but would not melt cos of the cold toast which I waited a hour for . I complained to the manager which took plate to show the cook/chef what a joke . The manager apologized and admitted the chef confessed he would not eat that but was happy to send out to paying customers. Absolute disgrace nothing offered for there shocking behaviour. Avoid if you don't want your day ruined or health if you eat it.”

“Kids eat free..... only if they have the cheapest set meal... The carvery looked cold so ordered of the menu hoping it would be cooked fresh, the chips were hot as was the pie but nothing else. The mash potato was cold as was carrots with the kids meals and like rubber, my scampi came out missing the peas, and two of the four plates had chips out on the rim we told the girl and she said oh that's ok 🤷🏼♂️ definitely needs a visit from the food hygiene people, won't be going back there in the near future.....”

“Oh, we love this place! We went in for dinner our way to Harwich and we didn't regret it. First, the staff is super friendly and very helpful. As travellers, we didn't understand the carvery concept, but the lovely ladies were happy to explain. We had the large plate which was more than enough for the both of us. We wanted to have a typical British meal before leaving the country and that was exactly what this was. It was a good meal and the price is incredibly fair. The kids enjoyed not only their kid's meals, they also had fun in the play area for children. You have to order at the bar. And yes, the empty plates weren't taken away in-between meals. But did that bother us? Not at all. When we pay about £15 for a large carvery (it's cheaper on weekdays) that is enough for the two of us, you will not hear us complain about stuff like this. And when asked, staff happily takes the plates with them. And then there's dessert. One piece is 3 layers! Of course I couldn't finish it, so the rest will be eaten tomorrow. I highly recommend this restaurant and I wished I knew about this sooner! There's free parking in front of the restaurant if you fill in your licence plate number at the bar.”

“Booked a table for 10 people. When we arrived the requested table was occupied as there was no reserved sign on the table. We had to squash into two separate tables. Each time we went to the bar to order the servers just left the till, leaving us standing there. This happened three times. The servers were too busy to smile or make eye contact. We ordered from the carvery which was a joke. The young girl serving couldn't cut meat! She served one small chunk of meat per person. The veg was old and soggy, the cauliflower cheese was orange and brown and had a funny taste. There were two pots of gravy and only one spoon. The biggest problem was that it was short staffed. The room was generally dirty. The suspended sign was full of dust and old chewing gum! The tables were sticky and there was no cutlery. There was a reduced selection of ice cream as the freezer was broken. Generally a disappointing experience which should have been a nice family reunion. Would not recommend”
