About Barnacles Restaurant & Bar Bistro

Barnacles Restaurant & Bar Bistro is a British restaurant and bar on Watling St in Hinckley, with a downstairs dining room that sits apart from the main floor. The menu moves between land and sea, listing oysters, sea bass and battered fish alongside a wagyu burger, with a Sunday roast of Yorkshire pudding and potatoes when the day calls for it. Starters run to baked camembert, and a salmon and avocado salad sits among the lighter plates. A conservatory forms part of the dining space, and a private dining room at the back serves groups. The restaurant takes reservations and opens for sit-down service with waitress-led tables.

Customer Review Summary

Most recent reviewers describe a sharp decline, with long waits and cold, dry mains recurring across multiple visits, including a roast with dry Yorkshire pudding and potatoes, and a dry sea bass. The oysters are the one dish several still single out as worth ordering, and a few note friendly staff, while flies in the conservatory are flagged.

“I have visited Barnacles Restaurant for many years for special occasions, last night we went for my daughter’s 20th birthday, the whole experience was disappointing. We were seated downstairs in a small room which was very noisy. Food and drink ordered, starters came reasonably quickly but we waited a long time for mains, which were not worth the wait. Dry overcooked fish, the best thing we ate were the oysters. It’s a shame as this has always been one of my favourite local restaurants, I won’t be visiting again.”

“The staff and atmosphere were excellent, very polite and very friendly. The food took a little longer than we thought but it was worth it, hot and very tasty. Would definitely recommend it.”

“Went on a Sunday and had a roast and some seafood. The wait time was very long (90 mins for our mains to come out?) and the food itself was quite disappointing. Starter with camembert had very chewy stale bread. The roast dinner had genuinely quite bad potatoes (soft/chewy skin, not crispy), came with a lot of meat that was a bit dry, Yorkshire pudding was large but very dry. Definitely not worth the price (£20+).”

“Absolutely shocking. My family and I dined there for the first time a few months ago and were very disappointed. Giving it the benefit of the doubt we attended last night. Again, the service was shocking! Waited 1 hour and 20 minutes for the food to arrive, food arrived cold and extremely dry. Not worth the prices they charge. Wouldn’t recommend at all.”

“Took my partner here for her birthday. Food was nice . Service was also very good. If I had to critique it. Then it would be that it would benefit from fly zappers in the conservatory area. I was constantly waffing flies away from the food.”
