Quick info
About Red Lion
Red Lion is a tea room in High Wycombe, set in a former pub that keeps a small front bar room. Afternoon tea arrives on a three-tier cake stand with finger sandwiches, scones and cakes, and tea is poured from a teapot into china teacups. Scones come with cream and jam, and cream teas are on the menu. Gluten-free alternatives, including beer, cakes and scones, sit alongside the regular range for guests who avoid gluten, and the breads and cakes are homemade. The lunch menu includes a Ploughman's and a Fisherman's lunch, and all-day breakfasts are served. The tea room opens Tuesday to Sunday, daytime only, and closes on Mondays.

Customer Review Summary
Afternoon tea on a three tier stand is what reviewers praise most, with finger sandwiches, scones with generous cream and jam, and moist cakes all described as homemade and fresh. The mocha cake and a warm sausage roll get particular mention, and tea comes from a teapot in china cups. Close behind are the lunches, including a ham and cheese ploughman's, the fisherman's lunch with homemade bread and bottled beer, and all day breakfasts. Gluten free options draw repeated praise, with one coeliac diner noting nearly everything has an alternative, including beer, cakes and scones. The former pub setting is described as welcoming to dogs, with one reviewer's dog offered water and biscuits. Staff are called friendly and attentive throughout. The one real complaint is a Mediterranean lunch that one reviewer found disappointing, with pickled peppers, onions and gherkins and only about five olives, though the hummus was liked. One reviewer says booking is needed. Another visitor ordered cream teas and found nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

“Really lovely spot, everyone super friendly and helpful. Only negative was the Mediterranean lunch was disappointing. We were given pickled peppers, pickled onions, pickled gherkins and I got about 5 olives. It was all tasty and we did get a large pot of hummus which was nice it just wasn't overly Mediterranean. Still recommend though as it was tasty others really enjoyed their dishes 😋”

“Lovely spot in West Wycombe. Old pub turned into a glorified cafe serving all day breakfasts and lunches. Homemade breads, cakes and great service.”

“Lovely place for lunch or brunch by great walking routes but you need to book!!! Great for gluten free and good coeliac knowledge”

“Stopped here for lunch for first time in years and enjoyed a very special experience. Went for the Fisherman's lunch with home made bread and bottled beer- something different but would certainly order again. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and very reasonable prices. Will definitely return to explore more menu options.”

“I was treated by my family to a delicious afternoon tea served on 3 tier cake stand. Finger sandwiches, cakes and scones - all home made and all very, very tasty. Lashings of proper tea from a teapot and china teacups. All excellent - thank you! Would highly recommend as a lovely place for a high quality and delicious afternoon tea!”
