Quick info
About Trybes Restaurant & Grill
Trybes Restaurant & Grill crosses a West African and Nigerian menu with Caribbean cooking at 160 Desborough Road in High Wycombe. Jollof rice and Asun anchor the kitchen's output, and the oxtail is slow-cooked and served with rice. The dining room opens daily, and booking ahead is advised. Dogs are welcome alongside their owners. Availability shifts through the week, so a dish listed on the menu can sell out, and the team may offer a substitute in its place, sometimes calling ahead to check first. Food takes time to come out, both in the room and for orders going elsewhere. Delivery runs through Deliveroo for anyone eating at home.

Customer Review Summary
Jollof rice anchors most of the praise, singled out alongside asun by diners who describe a blend of West African and Caribbean cooking, with slow-cooked oxtail, suya, moi-moi and peppersoup tasting like home to several. Close behind, one delivery order brought mutton curry, roti and puff puff called generous and flavoursome, after the kitchen phoned ahead to offer a substitution. Others mention a birthday party hosted there, a Mother's Day cake, and the flowers on the walls. The complaints are equally concrete and cluster around availability and ordering: reviewers describe much of the menu unavailable early in the evening, jollof included, replacement dishes served without being asked yet charged in full, long waits, an order rejected for out-of-stock oxtail, and sweet chilli wings that arrived as a single drumstick, with follow-up calls going unanswered. One diner reports a hair in tough fried chicken, and another describes chicken so black and dry it could not be cut.

“From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere wrapped around me: vibrant colours, soft rhythmic music, and the rich, welcoming aroma of spices. The food was absolutely the star. Every dish felt like it was made with care and tradition. The Jollof rice and Asun my favourite out here at Trybes Banging…. The oxtail slow-cooked until melt-in-your-mouth tender, swimming in a deep, savoury gravy that I happily mopped up with rice and peas. What stood out most was how the flavours blended beautifully: the boldness of Caribbean cooking meeting the depth and warmth of West African traditions, creating something truly unique and comforting. Service was friendly and attentive staff were happy to explain dishes and give recommendations, which made the whole experience feel awesome. Below is a picture of my empty plate”

“I ordered on deliveroo for the first time last night and I got a call from the restaurant to say they had run out of chicken roti but could replace with mutton which was fine. I also ordered the Yardie box. Tbh as zi was ordering a few hrs before closing I hesitated thinking I might get the end dreggs and as it is not cheap I may be disappointed but nonetheless I gave it a try. I am glad to say my food arrived well packaged, generous portions, the mutton curry was delicious, cooked so soft and flavoursome. The roti was thoroughly enjoyed by my daughter and the puff puff were scrumptious! We were so full and some left over which we ate the next day. I will definitely be ordering again.”

“Very bad professional service and this is not how a business should be run. This is the second time we have ordered from Trybes and on both occasions we have been very disappointed to say the least. The very first time we ordered and the food took like almost 1hr30mins to arrive, what made situation worse was that when it did arrive, all of our ordered items was not delivered. (Apparently they were out of stock). One thing I will say is that the food was really good which just made the situation very disappointing. The second time we decided to order, having learnt some lessons form our initial experience- we decided to call the shop FIRST and ask if the items we want are available and are in stock. We asked if they still have Asun and jollof rice. The lady we spoke to said yes they have everything on the menu available. So we decided to place our order. We order some j-rice and asun and oxtail. Order was approve and we were waiting for the food to be delivered. Only to check like 45mins later to see that the order has been rejected and apparently they were out of oxtail. So why did they tell us they had everything on the menu and available. Or better yet why did they not just call us to tell us that actually the item we have is out of stock. Any other serious business would have called their customer and told them that the ordered item is out of stock and if we can find any alternatives. Anyway we were a bit pissed off at this point but wanted some Naija food so we pushed on. When we checked deliveroo again, we then noticed that a majority of their items now show as being out of stock. So basically they lied to us. Anyway I then changed my ordered item from oxtail to sweet chilli wings thinking surely they will have that. About 45mins to an hour later the order came and guess what -they did not have any sweet chilli chicken wings even though it was said to be available on the delivero app menu. My sweet chilli wings was now replaced with just a single drum stick!! A single drum stick for £7!!! So as you can tell I was fuming. i Called them numerous times and guess what, they did not pick up. Of course they wouldn’t. Even called them from another number and they still did not pick up. Such bad bad bad service. Honestly it’s such a shame because the food was good and their unprofessionalism and business conductivity made the whole experience 10x worse. I WILL NOT BE ORDERING FROM THEM AGAIN!! WE TRIED SUPPORTING THIER BUSINESS AND THIS IS WHAT WE GET BACK. USELESS!!”
