About The Golden Bird
The Golden Bird is a Chinese takeaway in Hartlepool, found at 357-359 Stockton Rd. Orders are taken by phone, so the first step for any meal is a call to the kitchen. The menu includes house special chow mein, salt & pepper chicken served with chips, and chilli chicken served with boiled rice. Two of those three dishes come with a named accompaniment, chips with one and boiled rice with the other, so a caller can order a full plate in a single call.

Customer Review Summary
Late and missed deliveries dominate the complaints, and they outweigh the praise. Several describe food arriving hours after the quoted time, one after an order placed mid-afternoon was mixed up with another and offered a small delivery discount, another when it never turned up at all. Callers also report phone lines ringing out or going unanswered, and orders with items missing. Chips draw the sharpest criticism: dry, very fat-laden, or a portion of about a dozen, while a longtime customer says portions have shrunk and egg fried rice had no egg. On the positive side, reviewers praise chicken fried rice, egg foo yung, house special chow mein and chilli chicken, with salt and pepper chicken also called fresh. Some report hot food, a friendly driver and fast delivery, though one wishes the boiled rice portion were larger. One diner got their order within fifteen minutes after dropping in at short notice, and another says the food is very good even though the delivery never arrived.

“Been going here for years and food and portions are getting worse every time , one of the girls on phone doesn't listen to anything you say , i asked her time after time are you sure you got my order right and she said yes only to find things missing off order . They never do your food as you request them to, quality of food has really deteriorated and im not a greedy person but the quantity is half what it was and costs much more . Just got about a dozen chips in a portion and basically the quality was awful. Got egg fried rice with not a specimen of any egg at all , i haven't had their food for a few months after not feeling too good last time after eating it , But after food i just had tonight im personally barring myself out the place for life , Terrible food avoid this place at all cost !!!”

“Tired looking takeaway, only had one meal, salt & pepper chicken with chips, and was nice and fresh. Can't speak English very well, but so far alright but was just the one meal.”

“Good quick friendly service, dropped in at short notice and had our food within 15 minutes. House special chow mein and chilli chicken with boiled rice, could not fault it.”

“Absolutely diabolical never again. We ordered food at 530 it arrived at 8pm. To be honest by the time it came I didn't want it as I need medication with my meals and having them at 8pm affected my night time medication. The chips were also very dry my husband stated. Very poor service”
