Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the main courses, with the venison served with dauphinoise potatoes described as cooked to perfection and a steak called one of the best a reviewer has ordered. Close behind are the scotch egg starter, the fish pie, the hake and the devilled kidneys, with generous portions arriving piping hot. Staff wine recommendations, including an unwooded Chardonnay and a Malbec, and Theakston Best Bitter also draw praise, and staff are called welcoming and attentive but discreet. The main complaint comes from one reviewer who found service far too fast, with the order taken almost as soon as they sat down, hardly any gap between courses and the bill arriving within seconds. Another found the seat by the bar too loud for conversation. Two birthday parties were each brought a little sweet at the table.

“Always a delight to visit when up here. Food is excellent and I freely admit to being difficult to please when it comes to menus, but, their one offers a very varied range and I find myself in difficulty narrowing down the options, a problem I am happy to suffer. Great range of wines also and the staff are just so attentive but discreet. Many thanks.”

“Had an incredible dinner! I would highly recommend the hake. Service was spot on and friendly! We were sat by the bar and it was quite loud so it was hard to have a conversation.”

“We visited while on a business trip from Japan. The beer and the food were both very delicious. It was my first time trying Theakston Best Bitter, and I really liked it—the aroma was wonderful, and the head was fine and smooth.”
