Customer Review Summary

Sunday lunch draws the most praise, led by the roast dishes and the Sunday sharing platter, which one reviewer saw going out to tables constantly. Diners describe a roast rump lamb served hot and non greasy with a Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and gravy. Close behind are the haddock and chips with light, flaky batter and the linguine with chilli prawns, whose spice level one diner called spot on. Desserts, including the crème brûlée and the crumble, get repeated mentions as excellent. Reviewers also single out the friendly, attentive servers and hosts, and several describe the refurbished space, the garden seating and the River Thames views as a big change from the old Copperfield's. The one real complaint comes from a lunch booking where the door was still locked about ten minutes before noon, the steak arrived slightly cold and the table sat by the bathroom entrance opposite the kitchen. Even so, that reviewer plans to return. Another family said a dropped fork was replaced with a clean one before they could ask.

“We had a fantastic meal at Ego at The Copperfield and would definitely recommend it. I had the haddock and chips, which was excellent. The batter was beautifully light and flaky, the fish was cooked perfectly and the chips were really well done. Our daughter had the penne pasta with cheese and chicken, and the portion size was fantastic for a child’s meal. She can normally be quite fussy with chicken, but she ate the entire plate, which probably says more than any review could! My partner had the linguine with chilli prawns and absolutely loved it. She said the spice level was spot on, with just the right amount of heat without overpowering the fantastic flavour of the dish. A special mention has to go to our servers, Sophie and Amy, who were both incredibly friendly and attentive throughout the meal. At one point our daughter dropped her fork and, before I’d even had the chance to ask, it had been picked up and replaced with a clean one. That level of attentiveness really stood out and we genuinely couldn’t have asked for better service. Fantastic food, brilliant service and a really enjoyable family lunch. We’ll definitely be returning!”

“We had a really great time at Ego having a Sunday lunch for 6 of us. We all agreed it was one of the best Sunday lunches we’d had out. I got the Sunday sharing platter which did seem very popular, I saw tons of them going out. The other 4 people on the table got normal roast dishes and everyone enjoyed their food. We all had desserts, crème brûlée and the crumble. Both were excellent. The food came out promptly and was cooked so well, and super tasty. I would absolutely be back to try their normal dinner menu and lunch menu!”

“Ego at The Copperfield in Gravesend never disappoints. Sarah, Sophie, and the whole team are fantastic — always welcoming, attentive, and genuinely committed to making every visit special. They adapted to our needs effortlessly, and it’s one of the reasons we love coming here. We even spent our Christmas Day here, and the experience was perfect from start to finish. The atmosphere is warm and cozy with a modern twist, and the food is fresh, colourful, and full of flavour. I’d 100% recommend visiting, whether you’re dining inside or enjoying the lovely alfresco vibe outside. Can’t wait for the weather to get colder so we can try their roast dinner sharing board. It looks amazing.”
