About Little Hoi An
Little Hoi An is a Vietnamese restaurant at 26 Allison St in Glasgow, run as a BYOB room where guests bring their own alcohol to drink with the meal, and soft drinks are available for anyone who prefers them. The menu includes pho in beef and prawn versions, plus summer rolls served with a peanut dip. Chicken coconut curry and beef coconut curry sit alongside dumplings and salt and chilli dishes. The kitchen closes an hour before the restaurant itself does, so meals are ordered ahead of closing time.

Customer Review Summary
Most reviewers return to the welcome, describing owners and staff who are friendly, homely and quick to help, including one team that took time to help a friend choose a main. On the food, diners praise the crispy pork rolls, summer rolls with peanut dip, sticky pork belly and a beef pho described as flavourful, and one reviewer who dined solo felt comfortable. Opinion on the cooking is more divided than on the service. One reviewer found the prawn pho tangy and sweet, the Vietnamese coffee cold and lacking punch, and the flavours closer to Chinese or Cantonese than Vietnamese, though the dumplings were enjoyed. Another called the chicken coconut curry "from a jar" in style, with a small portion of rice and a neutral lemonade. A third felt the salt and chilli dishes made the menu broader than they prefer. Several suggest booking ahead for a table, and a group of ten described being asked after each dish whether everything was alright.

“The crispy pork rolls are the best we’ve ever tried in Glasgow, we go here at least once a month and would recommend to anyone in the southside if you’re looking for an authentic Vietnamese experience.”

“Great service and nice little restaurant. Food is nice but admittedly not my favourite Vietnamese I've had in Glasgow, just as quite a bit of it seems more broad with the salt and chilli dishes etc.”

“TLDR: Google maps review has this down as a hotel and not as a restaurant - Odd. Visited the establishment back in November and to be honest, felt like we were victims to a social media 'overhyped' restaurant fad. It's the false scarcity - due to the space of the restaurant, they encourage bookings in order to get a seat. It is tiny and it gives you the same vibes as some food cafes & restaurants in Asia. However, this didn't satiate our want for Vietnamese food. It's more Chinese/Cantonese flavouring, which has a time and a place. But not at a restaurant you would hope to eat Vietnamese food from. The dumplings were flavourful and we enjoyed them. However, we were let down with their pho. It was tangy sweet and wasn't a nice broth overall. As you can see from a photo, the prawn pho looked very sad and wasn't appealing. Another let down was their Vietnamese coffee, this was served cold (which I wasn't aware of, thought it would be served hot) and overall didn't have the usual punch that most Vietnamese coffees have. Overall, we wouldn't be rushing to head back. A usual sign of a good Asian restaurant is the number of Asian patrons the place has and there were none (apart from the owners during our visit) - which should have told us what we needed to know.”
