Quick info
About Captains Kitchen
Captains Kitchen is a fish and chips takeaway in Glasgow, run by a family from 1145 Tollcross Rd. Fish suppers anchor the menu, and the kitchen extends the range with Sunday roasts, pizza and pasta, so one counter covers more than the usual takeaway order. The burger meal comes with a store-made burger and chips, and the sticky toffee pudding is made in the house. Groups planning an event can order a buffet menu from the shop. Customers waiting to collect their food have seats provided.

Customer Review Summary
Burgers draw the most praise, with reviewers describing a real store-made burger rather than a frozen one, and the grilled burgers and cheese burger meal singled out. Fish suppers are called fresh, and one long-time regular also names the pasta, Sunday roasts and house-made sticky toffee pudding, along with friendly staff and comfortable seating for people waiting to collect. One delivery customer found the pizza hot and crispy rather than soggy. Complaints centre on delivery and consistency. Several reviewers describe orders arriving late or cold with drinks and sauces missing. One order was cancelled after repeated calls, and another went to the wrong address with no reimbursement offered. A bolognese made with fettuccine and a bland cajun chicken pasta drew criticism, and one parent said the kids pizza had hardly any cheese and no tomato sauce, with the replacement looking identical. Others say portions have become hit and miss, and one reviewer received a tiny butterfly chicken with only one tub of sauce for the whole order.

“I have been a regular client of Captain's Kitchen for the past 7 years. It is the place I go to for freshly made comfort food - love the pasta dishes and the fish is amazing! Sunday roasts are a family favourite and the grilled burgers hit the spot every time. Add the sticky toffee pudding made in the house and you can easily put together a meal for family or friends with no need to do any cooking of your own! Captain's Kitchen caters for events as well and have a good buffet menu available to order from. The staff are friendly and always helpful, feel like family whenever I'm in - there's music playing most times and a joyful atmosphere throughout. The place is very busy at weekends and staff can get overwhelmed at times. However, they are only human and the way they work under pressure should be appreciated. Comfortable seating is provided for customers waiting to collect their food which I find really thoughtful. It is fair to say that we locals are pretty addicted to this place - it is enough to witness the queues forming outside when the shop reopens after its annual 10 days all staff holiday to know that you have come across something truly special. Keep up the good work!”

“Used to be my first choice for chippy food but the portion sizes have become so hit and miss. Tonight’s butterfly chicken was tiny and they only supplied one tub of sauce for the whole order.”

“Zero Stars. Ordered at 750pm. Arrived 945pm, after x2 phone calls (clear after 1st call that they'd forgotten to make it). Spaghetti bolognese (which was actually fettuccine and one solitary piece a penne, with random tomato halves thrown in...) and cajun chicken pasta were bland and needed lots of salt. Chips, pizza and pasta all cold. Went straight in the bin. Don't waste your money here - make better bolognese with a jar of Dolmio.”
