About Café Nucleus Rainham
Café Nucleus Rainham is a modern European restaurant at 35a High St in Gillingham, split between a downstairs dining area and a quirky upstairs parlour with nostalgic decor. The downstairs room is mostly tables for two, while the upstairs dining room is set with two large tables for groups. A dark Wine Vault adds a third space to the venue. The bottomless brunch comes with Prosecco, mocktails and unlimited tea, and the egg dishes include Eggs Hibernian and Eggs California, with black pudding as a side. Smoothies and a wide selection of cocktails are on the drinks list. The team provides table service, and a service charge is added to the bill. The venue took Café of the Year at the 2020 Taste of Kent awards.

Customer Review Summary
Brunch is the main draw, with reviewers naming Eggs Benedict and Hibernian with thick, tasty black pudding, Eggs California, the full Canadian and smoked salmon with eggs. Smoothies, cocktails and a bottomless brunch with mocktails and unlimited tea also get praise. The Lemon Tart with Cornish Clotted Cream is called the best one a diner has had. Close behind is the service, described as friendly and attentive, and the upstairs Parlour and the dark, moody Wine Vault get mentioned for their quirky, high end decor. Pricing is the most common complaint. One diner found a cheese souffle starter very tasty but very small, and another felt some items were steep. One three-star visit described extremely slow service, salads with little bacon and chicken and mostly green leaves, and extra charges for syrup and decaf that were not on the menu. Others note the entrance tables for two get disrupted by constant arrivals, and that tables outside the toilet door are best avoided. One group stayed on upstairs with cocktails after brunch, with the space to themselves.

“We have been to Nucleus Rainham on several occasions with no issues at all however, today was different. The staff are still friendly although the service was extremely slow during this visit which meant I had to extend my parking thus incuring additional expense. Our food didn't seem to be of the usual standard. We had salads @ £17 each and both had very little bacon and chicken but lots of green leaves, not much tomato or other salad included. We also didn't realise that there are additional charges for syrup and decaf options on coffees (we may have missed this) but we don't recall seeing these additional charges noted on the menu. Unfortunately when visiting the toilet facilities the toilet seat was not clean. This was surprising because the toilets are usually spotless so we are not sure what has happened today but after spending £126 on lunch for 3 people we have left disappointed this afternoon.”

“We visited Café Nucleus Rainham for a birthday bottomless brunch with my 5 sisters and mum, and we all absolutely loved our experience. There was a good choice of dishes, and we opted for the Smoked Salmon with Eggs and the Healthy Option. As we don’t drink, we were given mocktails instead of Prosecco, and unlimited tea was included too. The desserts were delicious, especially the Lemon Tart with Cornish Clotted Cream. There were only two portions left, but luckily, as it was my birthday, I got first dibs! It was genuinely the best lemon tart I’ve ever had. The upstairs Parlour is charming, with quirky, nostalgic decor. Once the other guests left, we had the whole space to ourselves, which made it feel like a private dining experience. A special mention to the lovely young lady who served us. She was amazing, attentive and made us feel very welcome. Sadly, I didn’t catch her name, but hopefully the team will know who she was and pass on our thanks. I also have to mention the wonderfully quirky touch of hearing Stephen Fry reading Sherlock Holmes in the downstairs toilets — unexpected, but definitely not in a bad way! After brunch, we had a lovely stroll along the estuary at Riverside Country Park, and the weather was still beautiful. A really special birthday celebration with my family. We would happily return!”

“Was gifted a voucher as Christmas presents so went for a Tues brunch with hubby. We didnt book so were very lucky to get a table. Hubby chose Egg Benidict with a cappuccino while I had Egg Hebernian with apple juice. The black pudding on mine was thick and tasty whilst the apple juice, which I understand is bottled especially for them, was sweet, clear and the best I've ever tasted. Total bill was £43.50 including a service charge of 12.5%”

“Superb breakfast. First time here and didn't disappoint. Decent smoothies too. Will be returning.”

“Really enjoyed the food which was excellent quality, had a lovely steak cooked to my liking. The service was again excellent, they were very helpful and friendly. The only thing I would say is it's quite pricey, the starter of cheese souffle which was very tasty but very small was £12 and the Fillet steak £39.”
