About Golden Gate Chinese Takeaway
Golden Gate Chinese Takeaway is a Chinese takeaway at 2 King George Ave in Gateshead. Every order comes with free prawn crackers, so the meal arrives with a side already included. The menu includes salt and pepper chicken, which is also written as salt and chilli pepper chicken, and salt and pepper chips. Chips with curry sauce are another chip dish on the menu, so the chip orders run from salt and pepper to curry sauce.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers praise the sui mai dim sum, chicken balls and fried rice most, along with a chicken curry with proper chicken in a nice sauce, and box meals with good gravy and sweet and sour. One reviewer also appreciates that free prawn crackers are still included. Close behind is a run of complaints about consistency. Chips are the most named problem: overcooked and inedible, cold and tough as leather, or oversalted salt and pepper chips with raw onion in them. Others describe curry sauce that was watery or in thick blobs, dry king prawn balls, dry salt and chilli chicken, tough black bean beef and stale prawn crackers. Order accuracy is the other recurring issue. One reviewer got one house chow mein instead of two, and another reports a wrong munch box with prawns in the rice despite a seafood allergy, after which the owner refused to speak and hung up. Longtime customers say quality has slipped, though one still calls the food delicious.

“Finished work driving past this takeaway decided to give it a try as a treat for the family. Oh dear where do even start. Raw onions in the chilli sp chips and sp chicken . Beef black bean beef tough as boots . Prawn crackers stale goes on and on but to summarise won't be rushing back in a hurry.”

“Best Chinese in Dunston. Been going about a year now, won't try another Chinese. Food is outstanding, however today I could not eat the salt pepper chips it had wayyyyy too much on and am normally a salt addict but was inedible today.”

“Ordered from here this evening for the first time in a while. The food was good albeit a bit late but it’s a Saturday night so to be expected. I had the Sui mai dim sum and chicken & king prawn balls with fried rice. Dim sum were spot on, chicken balls were reallyyy nice as was the fried rice & sauce. The only thing I wouldn’t recommend are the king prawn balls, they were dry as anything and not pleasant. This place does also still offer free prawn crackers unlike a lot of Chinese takeaways around here which is always appreciated. Would deffo recommend just not the prawn balls as they were tonight”
