About Route 56

Route 56 sits roadside on Mill Lane in Frodsham, a cafe with a frontage easy to pass without noticing. The menu runs to five items, with crispy bacon and pancakes with bacon and maple syrup among them, alongside the bacon on toast, bacon sandwich, and bacon and egg barm that regulars tend to order. Seating is outdoors, with some tables set under cover for shelter. The entrance is step-free, making it workable for visitors with mobility needs, and dogs are welcome at the tables. Orders are taken on a walk-in basis, with no reservations. Food is also available to take away for anyone eating off site. Route 56 opens Wednesday to Sunday, daytime only, and stays closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Despite sitting directly on the road, the cafe is easy to miss at first glance.

Customer Review Summary

Bacon on toast is the clear draw here, with reviewers repeatedly praising it as thick, hot, and reasonably priced, one noting a £3.50 bacon sarnie was "lovely" enough to want another right away. Close behind, the "bin lid" breakfast and baked spuds get called out as filling, and several mention friendly, chatty owners and outdoor benches that suit families and solo diners on a long drive or bike ride. A recurring complaint pulls the other way, though: some found it overpriced for what arrived, with one detailing an £11.40 order of teas, a bacon sandwich and a bacon and egg barm that felt unremarkable, and another describing a £7.90 breakfast served on a plastic tray with cold toast, cutlery hidden under it, and a curt response when asking about a smaller portion for a child. Most, though, describe leaving full and planning a return visit.

A decent bacon and egg on toast, can't fault it. Definitely visit again if i ever was in the area. Cash and card are taken. Seating under cover. Open Wednesday to Sunday.

Handy snack cafe doing breakfast baps etc, baked spuds. Roadside but screened with a few covered tables

I like the bin lid, it actually fills you up for the day! And the staff are pleasant enough to. I would say the bacon could be a little crispier although I’m sure if I requested it they wouldn’t mind doing it 👍🏼 …

Very welcoming cooks Very polite. Will be going back again.

Desperate for a decent bacon butty after a long drive, the wife and I decided to try route 56 after seeing other reviews. Overall, fairly unimpressed. Overpriced, unremarkable food with the only consolation was being hot...ish. £11.40 for 1 tea 1 coffee, a bacon sandwich and a bacon and egg barm. Oh and a sausage for the dogs. If only I'd known castle park was down the road and I've heard much better things about the food there. As for Route 57, it's so well camouflaged on the side of mill Lane that it's easily missed. I just wish I had...

How this listing is sourced

Where the data comes from
Name, address, hours, contact details, amenities, ratings and review counts come from the business's publicly available profile data — not from the owner and not from paid submissions.
How it stays current
Every listing is re-checked on a recurring crawl, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
How it is ranked
Placement is never sold. Every business on the page is ordered and compared using the same public signals, so an owner cannot pay to move up.
