Customer Review Summary

Reviewers are split, and slow, small-portioned service is the main complaint. One says the peppered ponmo and grilled fish with yam and plantain tasted good but were overpriced, and a group of 14 waited over three hours with one chef and one waiter. Others found the fried rice not fried, the okra soup weak, and the chicken and plantain old. One praised the DJ and a birthday meal for 15.

“Food was stale, but what’s worse than stale food? Terrible service. When I arrived to collect my takeaway, I was advised it’ll be 2-3mins. It took almost 25mins extra. The lady serving did not say a single word to me, and when it was time to pay, she shows the price on the card terminal and just rotated it around for me to make payment. Genuinely a terrible experience and it’s definitely the last time I’ll ever come there. I’ll also be sharing this experience with others so people are aware of your restaurant, and ensuring that others do not step foot in such a place which lacks basic customer service. Those who do not hear must feel.”

“The fried rice was not fried, the ocra soup low standard with portion and taste, and the chicken and plantain tasted old. This is not what I personally thought I would receive at an African restaurant.”

“Booked the restaurant for a special birthday meal for a group of 15. The food and service was excellent. Staff were courteous and helpful. Great choice of music by the DJ. Good value for money. Thank you Whitehart Restaurant team for making our celebration special. Will definitely go back.”

“Forget about asking for help or extra service. Bottled water without cup to drink it from. It's a joke asking for a takeaway box to take home your left over. They will ignore you until you give up. Fun atmosphere but will definitely not recommend or come back. I support black business but in this case NO.”

“Food: I would have given the food a 5 star because it tasted really good but the portions were too small and they were overpriced. Imagine peppered ponmo for £18 very small portion, all the prices were outrageous. ,£30 for regular grilled fish with 4 piece of yam and plantain. Service: the waiter was friendly. A 4star for her but not for the entire experience. She served as both the receptionist, waiter and cleaning personnel The work load was evidently too much for her. It’s terrible that the management made one person do all of that work and only one Chef was on duty. Wait time: we got a table for 14 people wait time for food was too long. We waited over three hours for simple meals and some of us had to switch to takeaway. It’s really unfair They should work more on getting chefs to meet up with demand Atmosphere: the atmosphere is okay Though the toilet could be better, at least for the price they charge”
