About Rosey Lea Cafe
Rosey Lea Cafe is a cafe on North Weald Airfield in Epping, set in a building that looks like an old air hangar. From the airfield, visitors can watch planes take off, land and taxi past. Access is through the airfield barriers: say you are heading to the cafe, then follow the red line to the door. The menu includes a sausage sandwich, a chicken sandwich, a full English and salad, with carrot cake among the cakes. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate are served, and hot and cold food and drinks arrive on bone china. The kitchen cooks from scratch with local suppliers, and the team organises events to suit each booking. This is one of four Rosey Lea tea rooms, with the others at Market Square, Wickham Hall and The Henry Moore Foundation.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers mostly come for the planes. Diners repeatedly single out the outdoor seating, where a coffee comes with aircraft taxiing and taking off close by, and several bring young children who enjoyed the view. The carrot cake is the standout, described as moist and just sweet enough, with the hot chocolate, a sausage sandwich, and nicely presented tea also praised. Coffee gets good marks too, and one reviewer whose coffee arrived lukewarm says staff reheated it without hesitation. Staff are often called friendly and considerate.

“Great cafe, the view of planes taking off was spectacular and very unique. The quality of the food was great and service was excellent. Prices were a bit expensive but for the quality we had today was worth it. Our little one loved watching all the planes!”

“Great views to watch the airplanes come past before take off! Plently of outside seating area for food and drinks evening the views! Food was very good and tasty. Only the service let it down slightly, waiting over 45 mins for a flat white and tea! Overall very good cafe for brunch with views!”

“Such a lovely cafe, was very busy today and the staff were doing an outstanding job serving everyone. Food was lovely, not had a sarnie with such good sausages from a cafe in a long time! Coffee was excellent, tea presented wonderfully, and the whole time you have light air craft landing and taking off. Will definitely visit again such a lovely afternoon spot for a bite to eat and also family friendly, our little 2 year old had a great time and never once felt we were unwelcome with him.”

“A wonderful afternoon spent with the little one, indulged in their yummy food and tea, whilst watching little planes land. Note: It took us 10 minutes to find the entrance. To enter go to the barriers for the airfield and tell them you’re going to the cafe and then follow the red line from there all the way to the cafe (keep your hazards on and it’s about 5 minutes drive once inside).”
