About Turbo Burrito Edinburgh

Turbo Burrito Edinburgh is a Mexican restaurant at 43 Broughton St in Edinburgh, where burritos share a menu with Nigerian and Caribbean dishes. Burritos are made to order, with a vegan burrito and a California burrito that contains meat among the options. Ground meat is one of the fillings, and plantain comes as a side with the burritos. Puff puff adds a Nigerian dish to the same menu. Wraps are heated in a sandwich press, and seating is fold-out plastic chairs and tables.

Customer Review Summary

Burritos are the main draw and the main point of dispute, with reviewers split almost evenly. Fans praise the vegan burrito, a build-your-own African-style burrito and the California burrito for their non-standard flavours, and the vegan one paired with plantain is described as moist and flavourful. A quesadilla and puff puff also earn praise, along with a Nigerian, Caribbean and Mexican mix. Critics describe the opposite. Wraps pressed in a sandwich maker until burnt, likened to a panini, bland and dry mince that tasted of nothing, small burritos, baked beans in place of black beans, and dry nachos with little guac or sour cream all come up. A few also report slow preparation, including one customer whose phone voucher could not be confirmed after a long wait and who left without a burrito. The owner and the person serving are repeatedly called friendly, and one reviewer was handed a free drink.

“The woman serving was friendly , which is the only positive here. Went in there because of a voucher I was given through my phone contract which clearly listed that restaurant as part of it, she seemed unsure about it, which, fair enough it happens, but then spent 20 entire minutes preparing a single burrito with me being the only person in the restaurant. Then -after she'd cooked it-, she had to apparently phone up the owner/manager to see if the voucher was legit, so I waited another 10 minutes while they chatted, she sent him a photo of the voucher (handling my phone with the same gloves she just cooked the chicken with), waited for him to call back, and then ended up saying they'd never heard of that offer before. My brother in Christ you must have been the one to sign up for the scheme! So I left 30 minutes later without a burrito and having wasted an online voucher I could have used somewhere else, though to be honest looking at some of these other reviews I might have dodged a bullet by not eating the food.”

“What a terrible experience! A young lad had obviously been left on his own with insufficient training in the menu or hygiene. He kept having to call someone on his mobile to ask how to make burritos, and went from operating the till, to handling his phone (multiple times), to reaching his hand into the very pink meat, to reaching into the vegetarian items without ever changing his gloves. The meat was undercooked which made the whole thing taste bad. It took what seemed like 10 minutes for him to make one burrito, only then did he turn to the second person in our party to take their order. We asked for a refund, but that took so long and we had to provide bank details that only one of us got refunded - we couldn't stand to wait any longer, so we paid for a burrito that was inedible and was left behind. Whoever runs this place should be reprehended for allowing such an inadequately trained staff member to handle food, and for leaving him on his own.”

“Came across this wonderful hidden gem in the city centre of Edinburgh. The quesadilla was by far the best I’ve ever had. Being a picky eater I get nervous with my food groups. They also made me feel welcome with a friendly environment that makes you feel at home. They allowed little Rookie to have some chicken which he couldn’t get enough of it!”

“The reviews look fake because there's only one review per account. The worst burrito I've ever had. The ground meat doesn't even taste like mince and has no taste at all. The burritos are small and I wasn't even full afterwards. It's like you're eating tasteless rice porridge. I was disappointed because, based on the reviews, I expected a delicious burrito”

“I recently stumbled upon a hidden gem in Edinburgh (turbo burrito) – a burrito place that completely exceeded my expectations! I made my own African-style burrito, and it was genuinely one of the best burritos I've ever had. The flavours were incredible, and it's definitely the best burrito I've had in Edinburgh. The owner was also nice enough to give me a free drink as well. The place had a great vibe, the prices were reasonable, and the portions were huge. If you're looking for a delicious and satisfying meal, this is the place, going back to have another one tonight.”
