Quick info
About Tortilla Edinburgh
Tortilla Edinburgh is a Mexican restaurant at 107 Saint James Square, close to Calton Hill and a short distance from Princes Street. The menu works on a build-your-own format, with burritos, tacos and quesadillas assembled around the fillings each customer chooses. Vegan and vegetarian options sit alongside the meat fillings, so mixed groups can order from the same menu. Orders are placed at the counter, where the staff take the order and handle payment on the spot. The restaurant opens daily. The cooking follows a California-inspired take on Mexican food.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the food itself, singling out the tacos, burritos and a vegan option as good, and one diner calls it perfect. One reviewer also credits a staff member with knowledgeable help on dietary requirements. Portion size is the recurring complaint. Several say the main fillings in tacos and burritos are small, one left still hungry after repeated visits, and another says the vegan salad's lettuce and protein are small enough that a second helping may be needed. A few call the burritos expensive for their size. Service draws sharper criticism: diners describe being ignored at the counter, eye-rolling and dirty looks, a burrito so badly wrapped it needed a knife and fork, and sour cream and cheese forgotten or swapped for the wrong topping. One reviewer says a student discount was not applied despite being mentioned twice and attributes the refusal to bias. Another reports a refund receipt showing someone else's card details. A late-evening visitor describes chairs being stacked and sweeping starting well before closing.

“We informed them twice about the student discount—once before placing the order and again at the time of payment. Despite this, they never applied the discount. When we went back for a refund, they kept insisting that we should have mentioned it before paying, even though we had already explained that we did. I believe they were biased against us because we are Indians and enjoy spicy food.”

“Great location, food was top quality and atmosphere was nice. £20 for two wraps and 1 drink. Missing 5* only because it could have a better deal considering the wrap’s size and they’re £9 each.”

“Visited the St James Quarter branch on 06/06/2026 and had one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve encountered. Girl with the pink hair Kit in my particular. I even have a video of there antics. A simple ordering mistake (I asked for cheese but was given sour cream) should have been easy to correct, but instead I was argued with and blamed for the error. When my food was remade, the portions were noticeably smaller despite paying extra for cheese sauce. Raising this politely was treated as though I was being unreasonable. The manager, Kit, handled the situation very poorly. Rather than resolving the issue, he was dismissive, confrontational and more interested in defending staff than addressing the complaint. I was ultimately asked to leave despite remaining calm throughout. The biggest concern came when I requested a refund. I was handed a refund receipt showing card details that were not mine, and the receipt stated “Chip & PIN” even though I had paid contactless. I was also uncomfortable that my email address was entered into what appeared to be the manager’s personal mobile phone. To make matters worse, other staff came out to watch and laugh while the situation unfolded, which was embarrassing and unprofessional. This complaint has been escalated to senior management. I have requested that CCTV be preserved and that the refund, staff conduct, handling of my personal data and the incorrect refund receipt all be investigated.”

“Food was perfect but confusing when I asked about how much stuff was. girls that served me were so rude and were talking about me and looking at me when I left, dirty looks. They practically rolled their eyes at me. 😳when I walked in I wasn’t greeted and ignored, ended up standing for 2 minutes like a headless chicken. 🐔. One of them didn’t know what they were doing, I could probably make a better tortilla than them, like did you want me to make it?”

“Food was ok. But why I am rating 3 is because I went just before 8 pm and they started putting up chairs, blocking trash cans and sweeping under my feet. They close at 9 pm.”
