About The Coffee Mill
On West Port in Edinburgh, The Coffee Mill is a cafe serving soups, sandwiches, salads and all-day breakfast. The kitchen covers a Full Scottish breakfast with haggis and black pudding, alongside Full English and American-style options, plus traditional porridge for a lighter start. Baked potatoes with toppings such as spicy chicken and cheese, beans and cheese on toast, and homemade cake round out the menu, with fresh juice and fruit smoothies also available. The room is small, with tables set close together, and a wait can build at busy times. Items like wraps and paninis may not be ready if you arrive too early in the day. It opens daily and takes walk-ins rather than bookings. A step-free entrance suits visitors with mobility needs, and high chairs are on hand for families with young children.

Customer Review Summary
The full Scottish breakfast is what reviewers return for most, with the haggis and black pudding repeatedly singled out as tasty and the portions described as generous. Close behind are the flat whites, lattes and mocha, along with the porridge, fruit smoothies that were a hit with kids, and a pot of tea. A few also mention baked potatoes with spicy chicken and cheese, beans and cheese on toast, the soup of the day, and homemade cake. Staff draw consistent praise as friendly and chatty, and several say they were remembered on a return visit, with the family-run feel mentioned often. The main caveat is size. Reviewers describe a small room where tables sit close together, a potential wait, and a crowd on weekends, with one suggesting arriving around 8:00 to 8:30am. One notes that wraps and paninis were unavailable early, and another found the morning roll was just a bun with fillings. One reviewer recalls the owner joking about serving avocado on toast when they had run out.

“Brilliant cafe with an amazing staff, service and delicious food! Cafe is just near the grassmarket where you can have a nice view of Edinburgh castle. Would highly recommend!! Make sure to try mediterranian breakfast and bagels and ofcourse … their coffee!!”

“Outstanding food, value for money and excellent service. The team at the Coffee Mill make a cracking good coffee - we enjoyed our flat white coffee so much we came back for breakfast on all three days we were in the city. The Full Scottish Breakfast and the Traditional Scotts Porridge were hearty, tasty and very high quality. This was our first taste of haggis and black pudding - both were excellent. The staff at the cafe were helpful, engaging and had a great sense of humour, including remembering our coffee order as soon as we walked in on day 2. Found near the base of the famous castle, the cafe provides a great start to your day and your meanderings around Edinburgh.”

“We had breakfast at this little cafe. They have the most delicious oat porridge. It is perfectly cooked, smothered in fruit and honey. We also go toast that was thick and beautifully toasted. I had a latte that was very good as well.”
