About Pirlous
On Grassmarket in Edinburgh, Pirlous is a cafe and salad shop with a 26-item menu spanning breakfast and lunch. The counter serves Traditional Haggis and Cheese alongside Avocado Toast, and breakfast burritos and shakshuka round out the morning options. Persian-style lattes, including a Persian rose version, sit alongside the regular coffee list. A focaccia sandwich menu with several chicken-based options extends the lunch choices, and carrot cake is a regular dessert. Buns are displayed in the window near the entrance, and takeaway runs alongside eat-in seating for those wanting to head off with their order. It opens daily and takes walk-ins rather than reservations. Outdoor seating is available for those who want to eat outside. Indoor tables are set close together, with little space between them.

Customer Review Summary
Buns draw the most praise, especially the warm Biscoff bun that reviewers call creamy and sweet, along with a Nutella bun packed with hazelnuts and a homemade scone. Close behind are the breakfast burrito, which one regular returns for every Friday, and the shakshuka. Persian and pistachio lattes and a well-made flat white also earn mentions. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and one gluten free diner singled out the carrot cake. Complaints center on space and parts of the menu. Several reviewers describe cramped tables, and one was seated so close to the bun shelves that staff had to squeeze past the chair. The focaccia sandwiches get mixed reactions. The Amalfi and Persian chicken were called more okay than great, and one reviewer found them hard and covered in rock salt. Another described the "Cesar" salad as having jarred-style dressing and powdered parmesan. One diner found the carrot cake dry, and some hot chocolates served in plastic skull glasses were called undrinkable. Others note staff happily accommodated a request for poached egg and salmon on the avocado toast.

“Super friendly staff and a nice atmosphere! I got the avocado toast with salmon and it was delicious and filling. The passion fruit iced tea was also good! They were super accommodating when someone I was with asked for a poached egg and salmon on the avocado toast, and when another person asked for milk, which they had but wasn't on the menu on its own.”

“10/10! Lovely staff and great food. Recommend the iced matcha and iced tea too! The focaccia was so good that we came back the next day to get sandwiches again.”
