About Quinn’s cafe

Quinn's cafe is a cafe on West Port in Edinburgh, open daily during the day with walk-in seating only. Wood floors and a brick wall line the small room, where tables sit close together and seating can fill to capacity with people queuing for a table. The kitchen turns out a full Scottish breakfast with haggis and black and blood pudding, alongside a breakfast fruit scone, a ham and cheese croissant, and a sausage roll, with a pot of tea a common accompaniment. Carrot cake and chocolate cake round out the dessert options, and the counter can accommodate off-menu requests for children. Dogs are welcome inside. Beyond the menu, the staff offer directions and recommendations for places to visit around the city.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers come overwhelmingly for the full Scottish breakfast, with haggis and black pudding drawing the most comment, and several first-timers say it was their first taste of either. Diners describe it as fresh, filling and a good portion for the price. Close behind is the owner's welcome: many note he talks people through the menu and asks whether they need directions or tips on where to go in Edinburgh, and one family says staff offered off-menu options for their toddler and bagged up the uneaten food. Also mentioned are the breakfast stack, a pot of tea, a ham and cheese croissant, a sausage roll, and carrot cake that one reviewer preferred to the chocolate. Coffee is called strong enough to last into the afternoon. The one caveat is size: reviewers call it small with close tables, and one says it fills to capacity and had people queuing for a seat. Another found the bacon quite salty. One reviewer says the owner asked every customer on the way out if they knew where they were going.

“Walked klms to get to this great caff. Different sized breakfast which was great for me. Haggis on the side. Quite palatable! Super friendly staff looked after me. Highly recommended.”

“Stumbled across Quinns this morning, as soon as we walked through the door we were met with friendly & welcoming service. The Scottish breakfast was honestly incredible, was almost too much for me to finish but managed to clear my plate. The owner was absolutely fantastic & even checked to see if we needed any help with directions. Will definitely return soon.”

“Went in for take away with a massive sleep deficit but the staff was very friendly and patient. The space and atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable and I felt right at home. Watched full plates of breakfast being brought out and was very impressed. My sausage roll was exactly what I needed and something about the smell of it reminded me of something good from my childhood. I can feel the coffee working its magic as I write this review and I know I’ll definitely return to Quinn’s.”
