Customer Review Summary
Reviewers split sharply on The Café, and the most frequent praise is for the friendly, welcoming staff, described as lovely and helpful by several diners. Those who liked the food point to a large bowl of leek and potato soup with bread and butter, a Piri Piri chicken burger with skinny fries, and fish and chips, calling them tasty, simple and fresh. One reviewer also mentions coffee and a muffin, and another praises Too Good To Go bags. The roomy, spacious setting inside the courtyard also earns mentions. The complaints are just as concrete. Reviewers describe slow service even with plenty of staff, and one waited a long time for a latte with a single barista on. Another says the table-served pasta arrived at an empty table while they had to wait at the counter for the drink. Several call the food pricey for the portions, with the pasta described as abysmal, vegan options as flavourless, and the menu as limited. One says the coffee was never good, and another felt tension between staff and customers. Even a four-star reviewer notes that service is slow.

“The U shaped curve...many people giving 5 stars and nearly the same giving 1 star. Yet so few in-between (2-5 stars). I agree service is slow, even though plenty staff. Nice spacious design. Contented overall”

“Delightful staff gave us a lovely, generous welcome. Good food as it should be… simple and fresh, and very reasonable! Thank you, we will be back”

“Just had a coffee and muffin but both were good and staff were very friendly and helpful, it was a quiet Sunday and it's a great location. Hidden away inside the ECA courtyard but open to the public.”

“On 10 March 2025 I had lunch with friends in The Cafe and I must say the food was lovely. A large bowl of Leek &, Potato soup with bread and butter and a Piri Piri chicken burger with skinny fries, a large portion too, both were very tasty, and all for just £9.20. Service was friendly and fast and the manageress was efficient and helpful. And The Cafe is a roomy and nice place. It was a great experience! 👍”

“I can't believe you pay £6.95 for this sad excuse for a pasta meal. The portion of pasta was abysmal and barely had anything in it. The service is a little disorganised as well — I ordered both a meal and a drink. The meal had table service, so you would expect the meal and the drink would come together, but no, you are expected to wait at the counter for your drink while your food is served to an empty table.”
