Quick info
About Bistrot Pierre - Eastbourne
Bistrot Pierre is a French restaurant on King Edward's Parade in Eastbourne, on the seafront next to the Wish Tower. It offers a six-course "Gastronomique" tasting menu, and the whole table must choose the same menu so the kitchen can keep the courses in sync. A "Menu Pierre" is also on offer. Starters include baked camembert, and lemon or citron tart is among the desserts. A separate fish menu uses seasonal fish from a local supplier, and the kitchen prepares gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian dishes. A café bar serves coffees, cakes and light bites. The restaurant is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Customer Review Summary
The caveats are service and kitchen consistency. One diner on the Gastronomique tasting menu found it lacking in wow factor, and was told on the dessert course that the dark chocolate tarte had run out. Another group waited about ten minutes for a forgotten bottle of wine and saw mains arrive before entrees were cleared. A reviewer says a half lobster was hard and dried up, the manager said it was meant to be that way, and it was replaced with a steak only after a junior staff member stepped in. One more waited 20 minutes to pay the bill.

The hosts were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive, making us feel at home from the moment we arrived. The view is simply stunning and made the whole experience even more special. “Our wedding anniversary dinner at Pierre Bistro offered a mix of high notes and missed opportunities. The location is truly second-to-none. Perched on the edge of the Western Lawns, the view is spectacular - sweeping from Beachy Head in the west to the Pier and seafront to the east. We were warmly welcomed and enjoyed a beautiful summer evening on the balcony, which set a fantastic tone for the night. We had specifically booked to try the six-course "Gastronomique" tasting menu, hoping it would be a showcase of the kitchen’s best work. While the menu selection looked promising, the execution didn't quite deliver the culinary experience we had hoped for. Nothing was "bad," but there was a distinct lack of the wow factor one expects from a tasting menu - the kind of innovation and flavour depth that leaves you eager to return for their main menu. It felt like a missed opportunity to truly impress, perhaps sacrificed for higher volume. We would have happily paid a premium for a more refined, memorable experience. The service, while friendly, was a bit disjointed. There was some initial confusion regarding who was responsible for our table, leading to a noticeable delay in being served. Most disappointing, however, was being informed upon the arrival of the dessert course that the kitchen had run out of the advertised dark chocolate tarte, replaced instead by a lemon dessert. It is difficult to understand how a restaurant can run out of a component on a fixed-price, pre-booked set menu. While the meal offered decent value for the price, it didn't quite hit the mark for a special occasion. We left feeling that for a destination with such an incredible setting, the food and service didn't quite reach the potential of the venue. There are other spots in Eastbourne offering a more polished dining experience, so while we enjoyed the evening, we aren't necessarily rushing back.”

“Prebooked for 4 for a midweek gastronomique dinner, weather was beautiful, so restaurant was busy with lots of customers sitting outside. Seemed to be understaffed for the number of customers. We were shown to a table and advised of the many dishes which weren't available from both menus, and were also advised that the entire table must choose the same menu, otherwise the kitchen would be out of sync with courses. How does the kitchen cope when some guests choose entree and main, others main and dessert, and then some all 3 courses?! We decided on the menu Pierre. The food was OK. The baked camembert didn't have enough bread for the cheese, and the (4) camemberts were served having clearly been warmed for very different times. Service was slow, with a couple of issues; main courses brought out when entree hadn't been taken away, ~10 minutes for a bottle of wine to arrive, it had been forgotten. When it did arrive we were warned the glasses were hot as just washed, and they have no ice to cool them quickly.... We were all a little underwhelmed at the end of the evening!”

“We had an amazing dinner here. To food was great and the servers, Hannah & Mia, were some of the kindest servers we’ve met. 10/10 would recommend!”

“It's been the second time that I visited the place. The food keeps being fantastic, the view is amazing (sea view) but this last time the service was not that great. We wait a lot for getting served (they were not that busy) and it took them 20 minutes to come so we could pay the bill.”
