About Blacks Corner
Blacks Corner is a speciality delicatessen and wine bar in East Boldon, at 1 St Bedes. The kitchen works with small-batch British cheese and charcuterie, and the sharing boards of meats and cheeses put both on one plate. Gluten-free flatbreads sit on the menu, and brunch includes eggs benedict and coffee. The drinks side covers wine and cocktails, so the bar suits an afternoon or evening out as well as a morning meal. Reservations are required for tables. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the cheese and charcuterie boards, with one describing a sharing board of meats and cheeses and another calling the cheese board reasonably priced. Close behind are cocktails at the outdoor seating, eggs benedict at breakfast, coffee at brunch, and the new thin gluten-free flatbreads. Staff are repeatedly called lovely, polite and accommodating, and one group was moved inside when the rain got heavier. Cost is the most common complaint. Several call it pricey, and one couple found two small sandwiches with a few ready salted crisps and leaves poor value, along with a separate charge for bread and butter. A brunch review from a party of six describes service falling apart: no menus or cutlery at first, drinks arriving piecemeal, food served after tables that ordered later, and a server nowhere to be found when the bill was due. The food was still called good quality, and complimentary drinks were offered, but three of them could not be made because the milk had run out.

“Fantastic place and amazing staff. The cheese belt was great and reasonably priced. The staff could not have been more helpful and we're super accommodating. It's a lovely atmosphere and very relaxing. We will definitely be back.”

“Very overpriced with quality of food not reflecting the cost. My partner and I got 2 sandwiches which cost us £26.50. The sandwiches were small and came only with a few ready salted crisps and some leaves. They tasted fine but not amazing. The food was served on a tiny chopping board. Service was okay although a little slow, but I can appreciate we went at a busy time We were also surprised to see that they charged £6 for bread and butter, something which usually is brough out for free in restaurants. Overall, due to the price of food, we will never be returning to this place.”

“The food is very, very nice! It is on the pricier side so, in my opinion, definitely a treat.”

“⭐⭐☆☆☆ We booked a table in advance for six people and were disappointed with the overall experience. After being seated, we weren't given menus or cutlery. It then took around 20–25 minutes for our drinks order to be taken and for the first drinks to arrive, despite two of the drinks requiring no preparation. The drinks were then served sporadically rather than together. Throughout this time, there didn't seem to be any recognition from the staff that we'd been waiting so long. There was little sense of urgency, and staff appeared to be spending a lot of time chatting behind the bar while customers were waiting. Our food took close to an hour to arrive, despite the restaurant not appearing particularly busy. To make matters more frustrating, several tables who ordered after us received their food before we did. When our meals finally arrived, they too came out at different times. The staff kindly offered us complimentary drinks to make up for the delay, which we appreciated. However, after waiting another 15 minutes, we were told that three of the drinks couldn't be made because they had run out of milk. By that point, we had already finished eating and simply wanted to pay and leave. Even paying the bill took longer than expected. We waited around 10 minutes for it, were told there wasn't a paper receipt available, and eventually had to go to the bar ourselves because our server had disappeared. The food and drinks themselves were lovely and clearly good quality, which is why this review isn't lower. Unfortunately, the long wait times, inconsistent service, and lack of communication throughout the meal really spoiled what should have been an enjoyable brunch.”

“Nice cozy trendy place. Food & drink are excellent. Outdoor seating is great in the summer. Staff are polite! The only downside is the prices are quite high, but this is to be expected from a place like this.”
