Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the three course meals, singling out the scallops and black pudding starter and the steaks, with the sweet selection also called very good. Close behind come slow cooked brisket eaten in the bar, a cheese souffle and Sunday dinner, including a pick-up option, along with a warm welcome from staff and a beer, wine and spirits selection described as very good. Several call the pub itself quirky, with all sorts of items on display. Not every meal landed. One lunch diner found the duck potato stack and Eton mess bland and unseasoned, with only the spicy tomato and caraway soup standing out, and asked whether there was a new chef. Another found the crab lasagne tasty but not very crabby, and a restaurant week burger arrived barely warm. Two reviewers flag the 10% service charge added to the bill, and one felt only the friendly waitresses justified it.

“My family and friends have been here fairly regularly and have always received a very warm welcome and great service. The beer, wines & spirits selection is very good and reasonably priced. On this recent visit with friends we enjoyed a 3 course meal. The scallops and black pudding starter was a hit as were the steaks. The sweet selection was also very good. A great night out. Thank you.”

“Another fantastic visit to The Black Horse! My favourite place for everything from a family celebration, or a well earned Sunday dinner to a cosy evening meal for 2 or my recent favourite, walking my spaniel up to have slow cooked brisket in the bar! Loving the smaller plates combination too; means I can have all my favourites every time! Always the warmest of welcomes from wonderful staff, there’s something very special about this place! ❤️ ☺️”

“Quaint little pub with a mix of good wholesome food options. Accommodating staff with pick up options for a Sunday Dinner which is amazing. Pretty sure the toilets are haunted but don't let that put you off the cheese suffle!”
