About Ravello Ristorante Lanchester
Ravello Ristorante Lanchester is an Italian restaurant at 9 Church View in Durham, open daily. Scallops au gratin anchors the seafood side of the menu, giving diners a baked shellfish plate to start or share. The kitchen also cooks carbonara pasta, and it makes a meat-free version on request for guests who skip meat. Pizza and gnocchi round out the main courses, and starters cover more than one shellfish and fried option. The meal can finish with tiramisu from a dessert selection.

Customer Review Summary
Scallops come up most, with one diner calling the scallops au gratin superb and another naming the scallops as their favourite among many dishes. The carbonara is close behind, called delicious and made without meat for a vegetarian diner. Others single out the mussels, the black pudding stack, the calamari rings, the gnocchi, a crisp-based pizza and the tiramisu. The seabass roulade from the specials menu is described as tasty, with a good portion size. Reviewers describe a vibrant, busy room with friendly, attentive servers, and one notes they engaged with dogs on the outdoor tables. The complaints are few but specific. One family found most dishes just okay and lacking flavour on a busy weekend. Another reviewer found the bar staff member gave no greeting and no thanks at payment. The surf and turf split opinion, since one table praised its prawns while another received it very raw. The waiter asked to have it cooked further, and the chef took it off the bill.

“Staying in the area and came across this gem. I had the Gnocchi and it was stunning, the best I've ever had tbh. The servers were warm and friendly, engaging with the dogs (we were sat outside), and the food came out fast. Would highly recommend if you are looking for a delicious Italian restaurant.”

“Popped into the deli for a snack and stopped for lunch. The food was fabulous and very tasty. Staff were very friendly and the dessert selection was out of this world. A great place to stop for coffee if you are walking or cycling in the area.”

“We went here as a family of five during a busy weekend, the restaurant was very lively and most of the tables were occupied - so definitely recommend to book in advance. Overall, the food was just okay, there were certainly better options like the seabass roulade from the special menu, this was a good portion size and very tasty. However the surf and turf was certainly not worth the price, ours came very raw and the waiter did ask to cook it further. In the end the chef decided to take it off the bill. Other options were just fine too, but lacking some flavour. Despite this, the service was great, the waiter was very attentive and I feel like the food lacking was partly due to how busy the restaurant was. It was a shame as I know they can definitely get a higher rating!”

“Very good inventive food at competitive prices. Our scallops au gratin were superb. All main courses also excellent. The wine list is also well.priced for those of us who see price gouging! (Good wines in the middle £20 's). Great atmosphere. Attentive and relaxedly efficient waiters.”
