About The Star Pub
The Star Pub is a family pub in a village setting on Mill End in Dunmow, with a pool table and a juke box inside. Live music runs every week, from bands to DJs, and Open Mic nights are held once a month. Food trucks set up in the front car park each week, so meals come from the vans rather than a restaurant kitchen. The pub has also hosted a singing competition, a Christmas party and a wedding reception. The large beer garden has a play space for little children and an outside pool table. Children are welcome until 9pm, and the pub is very dog friendly.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast is what reviewers praise most, with a selection of meats, yorkshire pudding and plenty of vegetables on the plate. Close behind is the welcome, with staff called friendly and lovely, one spending time with two children at a birthday meal. Others name churros, a panko breadcrumb chicken burger, and Hawaiian pizza with cheesy chips, and a singing competition and a wedding reception drew warm praise. The main caveat is change: two reviewers say the roast is gone and food is now pizzas, burgers and nachos, which one calls not very exciting. That reviewer also calls it the roughest pub in the village, says the clientele is not for them, and finds the huge beer garden tired, though it has a play space and an outside pool table. The roast praise ends on one detail: a group asked for a cauliflower cheese that was not on the menu, and it arrived as requested.

“7pm - My experience of the Star in Thaxted was 💯. I had been to The Maypole in the afternoon which was disappointing, to say the least. The Star was friendly, warm, great service and being a visitor to the town Kerry filled me in on all the information I needed and looked after me as I had had a bad experience in the afternoon. The young people in The Star were all awesome. It was 100% apparent to me that they, each and everyone of them were awesome!”

“Wow. What a fantastic night we had at the singing competition yesterday evening, expertly run by Layla. Such a warm and friendly atmosphere and a lovely community spirit throughout. The staff worked so hard and gave great service to the packed pub run by Lisa and Mick. We sampled the hawaiian pizza and cheesy chips, which were very nice indeed. Well worth the trip from Cromer to this beautiful village in the heart of the Essex countryside. Annie and I are really looking forward to returning to The Star in the near future. It appears that the owners' idea of turning this former restaurant into a family pub has really paid off. Well done.”

“WOW Great food, if you want a decent roast dinner with plenty on your plate this is definitely the place to be. Andrea and Michelle very helpful and friendly. UNFORTUNATELY since this photo this lovely family country pub is now a pizza/burger pub. I have not been in so I cannot comment on how good the burgers and pizzas are all I know we have lost a great British Sunday roast.”

“TONI AND GUY PETERBOROUGH We booked the Star Brasserie for our Christmas Party/Team Building. From the beginning of the booking via telephone till the very end had great communication and great customer service from Andrea and her team. This continued with a very warm welcome throughout. We booked Sunday Roast, which consisted of selection of meats, yorkshire pudding and vegetables. We put in a special request of cauliflower cheese, as this was not on the menu..and yep, they got it!! Ian the chef delivered our request and the food was delicious !! They even got involved in our wicked sense of humour with a game of "describe the chef" overall a fantastic experience with these guys!! Photo was taken by Michelle @ The Star Brasserie Thank you The Star Brasserie you made our day. Well deserved 5 Stars”

“We were lucky enough to have Rebecca kindly agree for us to have our wedding reception at The Star! We were so pleased that we chose this amazing little brasserie to invite our loved ones too after we got married. The staff are amazing and so friendly. The pub itself inside is so pretty and the garden area just perfect. All our guests said how lovely it was too. We are planning on returning next week for our 1 year anniversary for a bite to eat and drink. If anyone is passing by or thinking of popping in or not. Do it. You will be welcomed with a smile and have 5/5 service :)”
