About Gumnam Restaurant - Lost Cuisine of India
Gumnam Restaurant, Lost Cuisine of India is a modern Indian restaurant on Union Street in Dundee, framed by its search for lesser-known regional dishes alongside familiar Indian restaurant staples. The kitchen works across a broad menu that reviewers turn to for items such as butter chicken, tandoori chicken, chilli chicken, Bombay vada pav and sea bass, with the samosa starter singled out by name. Table service runs throughout the dining room, and the kitchen caters to halal diets. Dogs are welcome alongside their owners. Tables are in demand at peak times, and a wait is common, so booking ahead tends to be the safer route. Takeaway boxes are offered for anything left on the plate.

Customer Review Summary
Diners return to Gumnam primarily for the depth of flavour in the food, with the chilli chicken and Bombay vada pav singled out as standouts alongside the tandoori chicken and sea bass lunch specials. The service draws repeated praise; one server in particular is named across several visits for being attentive and helpful, including accommodating a child's spice preference and offering ordering tips, while the wider team is credited with staying open past closing to serve a delayed party. A handful of diners describe generous portions at fair prices and appreciate the takeaway option for leftovers. On the other side, one reviewer found the butter chicken warm rather than rich, called the naan scrimpy, and flagged untidy restrooms. A few note the popularity of the place and recommend booking ahead to secure a table.

“Love lunch here. The specials of tandoori chicken and sea bass were superb. Great samosa starter also. Excellent service from Anmol. Great value :)”

“Really enjoyed the food, especially the chilli chicken and Bombay vada pav, both were excellent. The service was great too, with a special mention for Anmol, who was friendly, attentive and gave us some really helpful tips on what to order. Would definitely recommend.”

“We were travelling through Dundee and hoped to stop by for a quick bite to eat. The Gumnam team could not have been more helpful! Our flight was delayed and we changed our plans about 3 times. When we eventually arrived they served us at a table, even though our food was ready to take away and they had technically just closed. The food was delicious, super tasty and well worth the slight detour! Thank you Gumnam team for being so accommodating, we would have been very stuck without you!”

“Average food, fair price. Naan bread sort of scrimpy. Butter chicken more on the warm/spicy side rather than rich and buttery. My friends also thought their meals were average. Apologies but there are genuinly better options elsewhere in the city. Bathrooms also not kept tidy when theres more staff than needed. Stacked toilet rolls tell you they dont visit it often to clean it. The serving plates are also silly, even if they are traditional due to the frisbee type shape they move when you use utensils on them unless secured by your napkin underneath. Honest feedback.”
