About The Grumpy Goat coffee house

The Grumpy Goat coffee house is a coffee shop at 22 Wood St in Doncaster city centre, a short walk from the high street. The cake display keeps gluten-free cakes on a dedicated top shelf, and gluten-free sandwiches and crisps are stocked as well, so customers who avoid gluten have options across cake, lunch and snacks. The cake counter also includes a raspberry and white chocolate brownie. Hot drinks run from cappuccino and mocha to latte, with a decaf option. Wraps and sandwiches are made for lunch alongside hot food, and breakfast is on the menu too. The shop plays ambient music.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the brownies, with the raspberry and white chocolate brownie named repeatedly and a rolo brownie also mentioned. Close behind are the coffees, including a cappuccino, a decaf latte and a mocha, which reviewers call lovely, brilliant or really good. One coeliac reviewer describes the top shelf of cakes, the sandwiches and the crisps as all gluten free. A sandwich recommended by the woman who greeted one lunchtime diner is also praised. Staff are described as friendly, welcoming and chatty, and one visitor says they listened patiently during a long chat. Another says staff were happy for them to stay on after ordering a takeaway coffee, and a group marking an anniversary found them helpful and polite. Reviewers call the atmosphere calm, cosy and quiet, with gentle background music. The one complaint concerns the outdoor seating: a reviewer who sat outside disliked the view of rubbish dumped across the road. Another notes there is no wifi, though working on a phone connection was fine for a meeting.

“Just found this lovely cafe today. Had a decaf latte with a rolo brownie. Oh my goodness. The staff are very friendly and chatty which is in itself a breath of fresh air. Also, they let me natter on for a long time and listened. Bless them. I will definitely return and let family and friends know where they are. Will stay longer next visit and have some hot food. I am off now because the hairdressers awaits. Lol”

“First time of visiting, absolutely brilliant staff. Coffee brilliant, food was lovely. We sat outside , that is the only thing . The surrounding area with rubbish dumped outside a building on the other side of the rd. Then to the left is the job center with the undesirables .”

“I visited this place yesterday before my exam. I originally came in just to grab a coffee to go, but after a few minutes I asked if I could stay for a while instead. The staff had absolutely no problem with that and made me feel very welcome. I had a few minutes to do one last review before my exam, and then I went and passed it! This café will always remind me of that success and of the friendly, welcoming atmosphere. I think spending those few quiet minutes here helped me relax and take away the stress before the exam. Thank you! And see you again :)”
