About The Lane
The Lane is an all-day restaurant in Deal at 15 South Ct, down a tucked-away alley close to the beach. Afternoon tea comes in themed versions, a Wicked tea and a Wonderland tea, and each includes a skiosh, a hybrid of scone and brioche. The main menu includes a burger, corn ribs and a fish bucket, and separate vegan and gluten free menus are available. Breakfast and cocktails are part of the day, and mocktails are on offer too, including welcome mocktails and a themed one. Reservations are required, and the restaurant takes bookings for gatherings such as a baby shower. Dogs are welcome, so owners can bring them along.

Customer Review Summary
Afternoon tea draws the most mentions, especially the themed versions, with reviewers describing the Wicked and wonderland teas as magical, with beautiful decorations, table entertainment and a themed mocktail. The skiosh, a scone and brioche hybrid, is named as a stand out by one reviewer, while another found it quite dry. Close behind, diners praise the generous portions, the friendly staff who were kind with a 13 month old and did not rush a late table, and a vegan menu one reviewer calls to die for. The harissa, hot honey halloumi salad and the fish bucket also earn praise, and the welcome mocktails get a nod at a baby shower. Complaints are specific. One afternoon tea review found the bruschetta chewy, too much mayonnaise in the chicken brioche and very sweet cakes. Others mention an excessive amount of sauce on the burger, off grease under the corn ribs, a cappuccino tasting almost like instant coffee, and food arriving nearly 40 minutes after seating, with the staff apologising and bringing teas soon after. Several suggest booking ahead, and one reviewer mentions a 10% bakery discount with a receipt.

“We arrived late in the evening and were offered a table. The restaurant has a lovely feel to it and the customer service was 10/10! We asked for the gluten free menu and there was plenty of choice. The food was delicious, full of flavour, variety and textures. The portion sizes were generous. Even past closing time, the staff did not rush us. We had a lovely tasty meal surrounded by welcoming staff. The mocktails were delicious too.”

“The Lane is a cute wee shop down a nice alley. Very close to the beach. The service was quick and friendly but I had some issues with the food. The burger was nicely medium rare but had an excessive amount of sauce, it was so tasty but so wet as all the sauce just ruined it. I also had the corn ribs which were nicely seasoned but there was this off grease at the bottom of the bowl. My friends shared the fish bucket which they enjoyed. Overall tasty good prices and I would come back but would request sauce on the side for the burger lol.”

“Came here on a Friday for an afternoon tea. They were short staffed at the start and apologised but we were not in any particular rush. Staff were welcoming and attentive. The food did come out nearly 40mins after we were seated but again they apologised and gave us our teas soon after we did sit down. Was worth the wait as this is one of the best value afternoon teas we have been to and we go to around 3-4 per year. Portions were very generous and very tasty. Their Skiosh (scone and brioche hybrid) was a stand out, I was concerned as I am used to getting 2 scones but this was well sized and delicious. Not a large tea choice but for the value not an issue. Also tried a pot of coffee which was very nice. Would highly recommend and we will book again when next in the area. Would also recommend taking advantage of their 10% discount at their bakery (just need to show your receipt) which is a few minutes away as the food there is also amazing .”

“Really nice setup they have, great decor, 4 stars are due to the cappuccino being almost instant coffee flavor and the vibe was quiet with noone really in there, seemed like it was closing time. Also be careful when leaning on the strangely extended cabling, lucky enough we found the whole table flips be fore our food and drink was on it. These are simple things to correct, so I have no doubt everyone would love this place.”

“I booked the Lane for my daughter baby shower. I would definitely highly recommend holding a gathering here. The set up was perfect and they couldn’t offer enough to accommodate you. The food was amazing for what you pay for and was plenty left over so everyone took some home. Nothing was ever to much trouble. From when I booked to end date of the party, I was kept involved with the process and how much everything was going to be. The personalised few things to meet our needs too and the welcome mocktails were a nice touch. Thank you for such a lovely afternoon. My daughter and guests loved it and the compliments on the food were non stop. Thank you so much.”
