About The Port Arms
The Port Arms is a pub and inn on Beach St in Deal, beside the seafront. Its kitchen runs a Jamaican and Caribbean menu, with curry goat and jerk chicken barbecued on smoke drums and served alongside rice and peas. Platters for sharing include one for two. A Sunday roast with turkey is also on offer for those who want a more traditional pub meal. The inn lets en suite double and family rooms with sea views, so guests can stay on site. Dogs are welcome, and live music is played inside at times. The dress code excludes baseball caps, though other hats are fine.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers come for the Jamaican menu, especially the shared platter with curry goat, jerk chicken and mac and cheese tucked inside the chicken, called authentic and generous. Complaints are real, though: curry goat described as dry, bony or burnt, bland rubbery chicken, overly hot wings, and one table waiting a long time for food. One walked out over a baseball cap being refused while stetsons were allowed.

“A few minutes up the road from Dover ferry portbin Deal. Tim was bar keep for our visit and what a lovely young man. Very welcoming and helpful. We were there because we saw on Google they have caribbean food. Cooked by their very own Dexter? Delicious jerk chicken rice and peas.and curry goat. Only issue was the goat meat was dry it definitely needs to have the juice with it. And the same with the jerk, normally sauce or juice is dredged across the rice so it is not so dry. That said the slaw was tasty, the plaintain cooked just right, with that little bite (hate mushy food) and the festival was soft and fluffy. Thank you guys. 🇯🇲 * We didn't stay in the hotel *”

“The Jamaican food here is authentic as it gets. The meats are barbecued on smoke drums and the flavours are delightful. We got the platter for 2 and to be fair there was enough meat on this platter for four. Excellent value for money. Great outdoor seating. If you’re in town this is a must visit for lunch and/or dinner. Tip: I’m not a fan of watermelon or cucumber so do ask in advance to take this off if you’re like me.”

“We called in last Saturday as a family and we were incredibly disappointed with the food. We have eaten there before and all was fine. This time we nearly all had the chicken which was dry and tasteless. It felt as though it had been cooked the day before and reheated. Also a few of the family had brownies. First thing if they are going to be blondies wise to let people know. It tasted awful and we all tried it and none of us liked them. When we mentioned it to the waiting staff we were told that it was cooked the Jamaican way so that's why we didn't like it.”

“Lovely place to sit and have a drink by the sea, food is good and wine is affordable. Often has live music but can be inside for that or more chill outside”

“I went with family last night to sample the Jamaican menu. Not one of us were disappointed - it was absolutely fantastic. All the food was fresh, tasty and 100% authentic. The presentation was top notch, the portions were perfect. Without a doubt some of the best Jamaican food I've tasted in the whole of the south. The atmosphere and the staff were relaxed and made us feel welcome. We can't wait to go back!”
