Customer Review Summary

Fish and chips is the dish diners praise most, called delicious and spot on in beer batter with peas, and close behind come a shared salt and pepper squid starter that one reviewer ranks among the best they have had and a Sunday roast beef that another found only okay. A few mention large, hot portions and quick service even when busy, and overnight guests rate both the cooked and continental breakfasts as excellent. Sea-view rooms earn praise for their outlook over the pier, with a kettle and complimentary tea and coffee as a lovely extra. The recurring drawback is access: several guests describe the stairs to the rooms as narrow, steep and winding, and one with arthritis struggled. Others mention a shower drain backing up, expensive cocktails, and a front seating area that grew noisy late in summer. One diner reports a long wait after a man on the floor ignored their greeting and walked off with an incomplete order, until an apologetic waitress finally brought the meals.

“Stayed here for a few days. For a small hotel, this was a great Deal! No pun intended! I think the only two things I would critique on were the narrow steps (didn’t have an issue myself but definitely worth noting for others who may have mobility issues) and the shower drain was backing up a little bit (but not severely). It’s situated in a nice location and has great views of the water! I specifically booked an ocean view room for that very reason! The staff were so kind and helpful for someone like me who had never been here prior to coming! If/when I come back to visit Deal, I would without a doubt stay here again!”

“Stayed for 2 nights, beautiful pub. Flowers outside were amazing. Staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. (Natalie) Meals were really good and served hot. Very filling. Large portions. Stairs to the rooms were a challenge, quite narrow, I struggled because I have arthritis, but did manage with hubby's help. Had a front room with a sea view, overlooking the many tables outside, but room was quiet enough to sleep well. Graham the owner was lovely. Will definitely like to come back. Well done all the staff, and thank you for a great service,”

“An absolutely stunning pub. Old world charm and something here that can be found that has been lost in pubs up and down the country. The food is great, well priced and the welcome and service are warm and friendly. Do not hesitate to get yourself here. Highly recommended.”

“Fabulous place right on the beachfront. Good food, we had dinner and breakfast there and as a cricket lover the memorabilia was a real treasure trove. We went in height of summer and the communal area outside got quite noisy late on.”
