About Reservoir Cafe

Reservoir Cafe is a cafe in Daventry, at Daventry Country Park by the reservoir, and dogs are welcome. Customers queue at the counter to order, and finished coffees are put out for collection on a table beside it. The menu includes sandwiches and a bacon butty, and coffee comes with optional toppings and extras. Snacks are kept in a fridge at the till, and ice creams sit alongside the hot and cold drinks. Only the cafe's own food and drinks may be consumed on the premises, as the space is not a picnic area.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers center on the staff, and the picture is largely negative: repeated complaints describe a rude, surly counter experience, most often tied to an older woman serving or the owner. One reviewer was told only the cafe's own food could be eaten on the premises, and two said the owner's reply was that this is how they make their living. Others describe being huffed at for ordering sandwiches for four after a long queue, a snappy answer when asking about sparkling water, and a coffee that arrived without the paid toppings, with no apology. One group with newborns was asked to move away from the coffee pickup table while waiting. Order taking is called slow. Alongside this, reviewers call the food pretty good and reasonably priced, with a bacon butty singled out as tasty, and say the younger staff are pleasant. The setting by the reservoir draws praise, though one regular now brings a thermos and snacks and sits a few benches away.

“The more "senior" lady serving is very rude. I don't think she likes people. Very slow system for taking orders and serving. This review is based on multiple visits.”

“Staff were friendly, bacon butty was tasty, there was seating and the food was reasonably priced, arguably cheap these days so I can’t complain really! It was hammering it down with rain so I sat in the car but that’s a different argument! 😂”

“Before we could settle down the kids for their lunch and proceed to order our own food, drinks and ice cream, the lady owner came up and was unnecessarily rude. Instead of just stating that only their own food and drinks can be consumed on their premises (completely understandable and would have happily obliged to move on if we wasn't planning to buy), she was rude and abruptly said this is how they make a living. No need for that last comment. We would have been apologetic and explained we were actually planning to buy something to eat. Rather, her last comment ended the conversation and she made the assumption we wasn't going to buy anything. This just annoyed us and we left. Clearly there was a bee in her bonnet that day and decided to take it out on potential customers. Hopefully she has better days and speaks to visitors with kindness and politely move them on, if they are not going to be paying customers. 1 star given for the location of the cafe only.”

“I really want to support this cafe but my goodness the staff do not make it easy. I'm yet to have a nice experience here. The latest visit (with two newborn babies), we were asked to move away from the table where they put the coffees out on, despite waiting for a coffee. Not sure where they wanted us to go. Staff desperately need some training or a P45.”

“Really rude woman serving. We queued up for 20 minutes, got to the counter at 3.30 (they close at 5pm) to be huffed at because we wanted to order food. The woman agreed to accept one more order and then moaned because it was 'a big order'....sandwiches for 4 people. I asked why there isnt a sign to let people know that food isnt served after 3.30 so that they don't waste 20 minutes queueing up and she just said that they can find out when they get to the front of the line. She said that they close when they need to and were shutting early as it is winter and it gets dark. It was 3.30pm, early October. I dont think I've had one positive interaction with this person, she really lets the place down. The food is pretty good though, at a decent price and the younger staff are pleasant. But I've never felt like such an inconvenience, ordering food from a place that exists to sell food!”
