Customer Review Summary

Steak is what diners mention most, with one reviewer calling a medium rare steak juicy and easy to cut, served with good chips, though another found the steaks overcooked despite quality meat. Close behind are the pizzas, described as fresh, hot and tasty, along with the lobster ravioli, seabass and scallops. Tiramisu and pistachio profiteroles drew praise, and one reviewer enjoyed a side of macaroni cheese. Service is often called friendly and attentive, and one diner says staff answered back in Italian. Complaints centre on value and pacing. Reviewers describe a chicken main with only a few potatoes and a thin breast as small for its price, and a lasagne arriving with no sides. A watery gorgonzola sauce was also mentioned. A large party waited about an hour for mains, while an anniversary couple felt rushed through their meal. Two reviewers dislike the automatic 10% service charge. One group sent back three Pepsis because the syrup tasted wrong, and one found the music erratic. Another reviewer finished the evening sitting outside with a drink.

“We spent our anniversary at The Gate this evening. It was our first visit, so we decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The food was okay, but nothing special. My wife ordered the Chicken with a gorgonzola sauce, and the sauce was very watery and lacked flavour. The menu stated it came with roast potatoes, but that was literally all it came with, a chicken breast and a few roast potatoes. My T-bone steak was okay, but again, nothing memorable. The biggest issue was the service. We were shown to our table, ordered our drinks, then ordered our starter and mains. From being seated to finishing our meal, paying the bill and leaving, the whole experience took less than 45 minutes. We felt extremely rushed and didn't feel like we were given the chance to relax and enjoy our anniversary meal. To top it all off, a 10% service charge was automatically added to the bill, which felt particularly disappointing given how rushed the experience was. Overall, it wasn't the anniversary meal we'd hoped for, and sadly we won't be rushing back”

“This is an excellent restaurant with a skilful chef and speedy, efficient service. Scallops and seafood for starters, followed by seabass( huge helping) and lobster ravioli for mains. They were all delicious and we will definitely return.”

“I’m staying with friends and was delighted in the experience of dining out in this stylish restaurant. On entering patrons are immersed in tasteful decor. Chairs that add to stylish furnishings are extremely comfortable. Our meals when they arrived were precisely to our liking. I’m sure we will return intermittently to explore further options this varied menu offers”

“We arrived without a booking today for lunch. Not a problem, showed us to our table. Service was amazing as per normal. The food is traditional Italy, Piza, pasta, steak, and some amazing fish dishes. The staff are fantastic, and I use my broken Italian to order food . And they guys respond back in Italian. Love this place, nice and local to us. If you looking for nice food, great atmosphere and great service. Then this place is a must. See you soon guys.”
