About Cogs Bar & Kitchen
Cogs Bar & Kitchen is a modern British restaurant on Friargate in Coventry, attached to a hotel right next to Coventry train station. The dining room sits alongside a bar area, and the menu is small, with gammon steak on it and Sunday roasts that need to be ordered before 4. Dogs are allowed in the bar, where treats are put out on the tables, so guests can bring a pet along. A private dining room is available for groups. The hotel serves breakfast, and parking in the station car park is validated at the hotel reception.

Customer Review Summary
The main complaint is the mains. Two reviewers found the gammon steak dry and tough or poorly cooked, one was disappointed that there was no ribeye, and another found a roast chicken mostly bone with a tiny portion and poor roast potatoes for the price. That reviewer also felt the staff came across as judgemental and the place was more show than substance. One reviewer says the restaurant is best booked, and that Sunday roasts must be ordered before 4. Several describe dog treats on the table and free chocolates for Mother's Day, and one had parking validated at hotel reception.

“COGS in Coventry is an amazing place. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by how stylish, clean, modern and fresh everything looked. The venue has a classy atmosphere and is in a brilliant location, right next to Coventry train station, making it very easy to reach. The staff were welcoming, the whole place appeared well maintained, and the hotel looked like a lovely place to stay. I’m really looking forward to visiting again, trying more of what they have to offer and hopefully stopping overnight at the hotel. I would definitely recommend COGS to anyone visiting Coventry who is looking for a stylish venue in a convenient location. A very positive first impression and somewhere I’m excited to return to.”

“May 2026. Popped in for a drink with a couple of fiends. Well presented bar area. The staff were polite and the service was spot on. The Camden Town hazy IPA was delicious. Will defiantly be going again.”

“Paid £23 for a roast and honestly it was really disappointing. The portion size was tiny for the price. The chicken was mostly bone with barely any meat on it, and the roast potatoes were just not good at all. The whole place feels like it’s more for show than anything else. It looks like one of those fancy restaurants, but the food quality really doesn’t match it. The plate looked alright at first but didn’t taste great at all and was really underwhelming. Service didn’t help either, staff came across quite judgemental which made it a bit uncomfortable. For that price you expect a proper roast and a decent experience, but this just wasn’t it.”

“Wonderful food and staff. We went recently as got a voucher as a gift for Christmas. The staff were very accommodating and friendly and we can’t wait to return again. Definitely recommend.”
