About The Pavilion
The Pavilion is a Cantonese restaurant in Consett, on Iveston, and it opens daily. Tables are laid with white cloths, and the dining room is finished in dark wood. The menu starts with aromatic crispy duck, served with pancakes, spring onions, cucumber and hoi sin sauce, and salt and pepper king prawns. The House Special dishes come as curry, chow mein, crispy noodles or fried rice, built around mixed prawns, chicken, beef and char sue pork. A private room holds a large round table with a lazy Susan, so groups can share a set menu together.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the aromatic crispy duck, served with pancakes, spring onions and hoi sin, and one reviewer calls the duck starter cooked to perfection with no fat. Close behind are the salt and pepper king prawns, the House Special curry and chow mein, and the set menu, which one group of eight enjoyed in a private room with leftovers boxed to take home. Reviewers describe warm, friendly staff who accommodate changes, such as swapping salt and pepper chicken wings for chicken balls, and a decor they call cosy and traditional. Long-standing visitors say it has stayed consistently good over the years. The recurring caveat is cost, with several calling the prices steep. One family reports a disappointing lunch of greasy prawn crackers, tough chicken, watery sweet and sour and salty beef in black bean, though they still praised the staff, and they say their bill was discounted after they complained.

“Went with our family today for lunch as the last time we went (about 3yrs ago) was incredible, not sure whats happened to this place but the food wasnt any better than you local buffet, VERY dissapointed, greasy prawn crackers was the give away to start, chicken tough, curry wasnt great, watery sweet n sour, beef in black bean was salty as hell. The staff were amazing to be fair but for the prices its not worth going, we still paid £175 with discounts because we complained, horrific quality, tastless crap. Sorry! NEVER again.”

“Very nice foods with lots of flavour. You cannot get anywhere near as flavourful from a takeaway. The decor inside is very nice and traditional. Prices are very steep though so do not come expecting a cheap meal.”

“This Cantonese restaurant is by far our favourite! The food is 5 stars & the staff provide a first-class service. The internal furnishings provide a restful experience with the seating well spaced out. Whether there for a family celebration (we have had many) or an intimate visit, you will have an enjoyable experience & want to return again & again.”

“Had a very nice evening at The Pavilion. It wasn't over the top or spectacular, but it was a consistently good meal with classic flavours that hit the spot. Starters & Appetizers We started with a few staples. The Aromatic Crispy Duck was a highlight, served traditionally with pancakes, spring onions, cucumber, and hoi sin sauce. We also shared the Mixed Hot Hors D'Oeuvres, which provided a great variety, including the spring rolls, Peking spare ribs, skewered satay chicken, deep-fried butterfly king prawns, and salt & pepper chicken wings. The Sesame King Prawns Toast was generous and well-prepared, and the Salt and Pepper King Prawns had a nice seasoning without being too intense. Main Courses For the mains, we stuck with the "House Special" dishes: House Special Curry: A reliable, warming dish with a good mix of king prawns, chicken, beef, and char sue roast pork. House Special Chow Mein: Well-portioned with the same variety of meats and prawns. Sides: The salt and pepper chips and the house special fried rice were both solid accompaniments that rounded out the meal perfectly. Overall, if you are in Consett and looking for a dependable Cantonese meal that does the basics well, this is a great choice. It’s exactly what you’d expect pleasant service and very nice food, though it is worth noting it was rather pricey.”
