Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the restaurant, especially Sunday roast dinners with fresh vegetables and a large fish dish with generous portions, along with views from the windows. Close behind, dog-friendly stays and welcoming staff. The caveat is slow service and tired rooms: one reviewer describes dirty towels and a broken safe, another hard poached eggs and cold breakfast after a long wait.

“We stayed for 2 nights at The Alma and we have stayed many times before. Room 6 had a missing spindle on the hot water tap on the basin and the hot water tap in the bath was not fixed properly. The towels in the bathroom were dirty - nasty marks on them. The hook on the back of the bathroom door was about to fall off. The grouting round the bath was falling out of the tiles. The safe in our room didn't work - I believe batteries needed replacing! On the first morning when we left the hotel I was asked if we wanted the room 'refreshed' and I said yes. When I returned that evening the bathroom had been cleaned (no new towels) but the bed had not been made! The staff at the hotel are so nice and willing to help in any way they can but the rooms definitely need a facelift. George was particularly helpful to us as he had come from The Fleece to help out as there was a wedding at the hotel on the second night. This was very noisy and continued to disturb us until 12.30am.”

“We were a party of four staying for 2 nights at the Alma Inn. The Reception staff were extremely welcoming on arrival. The room was large, the bed was comfy, we felt the room was value for what we had. Some parts of the Alma Inn leading to the rooms could do with a decorate and a few minor areas that need attention. The atmosphere of the place is lovely and the bar and restaurant are nice and vibrant, we enjoyed our food. However our cooked Breakfast was a let down though, our poached eggs were hard, some parts of the breakfast arrived cold, after waiting over half hour to be served, when we were the only guests having breakfast. The main menu could do with updating giving more varierty. Phil and his staff were very efficient and friendly, and worked extremely hard to make our stay enjoyable.”

“We had a lovely family Sunday lunch here and travelled from a few places to meet up. There were 14 of us and we had a great meal in a fantastic setting. We pre ordered our food and Phil and team were very responsive to our queries beforehand. On the day the service was very good no complaints at all.”

“The Alma Inn is a nice place to stay with tremendous views in all directions. The room was comparable with some of the better ones we have stayed in, but they often included breakfast for about the same price. The food in the restaurant was good, but we were surprised at how quiet it was even on a beautiful Saturday evening. The answer may lie in the fact it took an hour from arriving to finishing our main course - and we didn't have a starter. It took another twenty minutes before we were asked about a dessert, but by that time we had lost interest. This is a shame as the venue has much, otherwise, in its favour.”

“Food was fabulous. Small fish was enormous, glad we didn't order the large! Generous portions, lovely setting. Restaurant staff were attentive and engaging. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Would recommend.”
