About The Beer Engine, Skipton
The Beer Engine is a pub at 1-3 Albert Terrace in Skipton, a short walk from the canal basin and the train station. It won outright Yorkshire Pub of the Year for 2025 and has been listed in the Good Beer Guide for 11 years. Six cask pumps pour changing beers from breweries across the UK, and six keg lines cover sours, darks, pales and a lager. Wines, real ciders and bottled beers sit alongside them. The pub is a micropub that has been extended, and drinks are ordered at the bar with counter service. There is no music and no television, just quiet conversation. Frames and circles carrying messages decorate the walls.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers come mainly for the real ale, with well-kept cask pints and a craft selection that one describes as elevated. A cider is singled out as very clean tasting, and lagers get a mention too. Close behind is the friendliness of the staff, who several call helpful and informative, with the owner's humour and knowledge of the ales drawing particular praise. Many describe a local-pub feel and a relaxed atmosphere, helped by frames and circles with messages on the walls, a comfortable layout, and dogs being welcome. One reviewer values that there is no music and no telly, just quiet conversation. Its place in the Good Beer Guide for the past ten years is cited as well deserved. The only recurring note of caution is location, as a few say it is tucked away and a bit off the beaten track, though they place it a short walk from the canal basin and the train station. Visitors also mention the friendly patrons, many of them tourists, and one calls the pub one of their favourite bars after its extension.

“Visted last night, great real ale bar. The owner Adam was hilarious. Absolutely made us laugh. His knowledge of the ales and how he and his partner has put their stamp on it is a credit to them. It felt like a local pub, great atmosphere. If Adam wasn't in the real ale game he could be a stand up comedian. Fabulous few drinks, we all enjoyed them. Definitely reccomend.”
