Customer Review Summary

Large portions are what most reviewers praise, from a mixed grill cooked as asked and homemade chips to gammon and a Sunday roast, with staff described as friendly and dogs welcomed. Complaints centre on the rooms: a small room, a stained uncomfortable bed, and a dirty toilet. One diner found a cardigan in their meal and received no apology, and the replacement plate returned with less food.

“The food tastes great, plentiful portions and happy to adapt dishes for allergies however the service wasn’t great.. The waitress’s cardigan was the garnish to my food, when I asked for a replacement I didn’t get an apology, or even an acknowledgment she just took the plate and left. When the food arrived back after almost 10 minutes there was less food than originally, and again no apology or acknowledgement from the waitress. Accidents happen but rudeness is inexcusable.”

“Friendly and very helpful staff. Went with dog who isn't used to sitting still, and they welcomed him in to let him try. He did amazingly well 👏 Service was great and quick. Meals were beautiful and huge!!! Great value for money, great atmosphere. Busy, so obviously well known 😊”

“Had a lovely roast here. The service was fast and very helpful staff. Dinner was gorgeous and I can’t believe I’m saying this , but I actually thought it was too big. I was so full I didn’t want a desert. Maybe a slightly smaller meal so that people would buy a desert. The only other thing I couldn’t understand was why the gorgeous garden didn’t have a lot of tables and chairs . I think this pub would be packed in that garden if more was made of it. We would definitely go back for the service and food 😊”

“Such a disappointment. Very little good to say. Large portions but the food was very poor and as if just being heated in Bain Marie. Mushy overcooked veg and dry / burnt overcooked Yorkshire. My wife asked about veggie choice with Sunday dinner as veggie choice on menu was quite limited. The server could not have been less interested. When we chased up part of the meal they were brought over and slammed on the table. If you want large portions of poor quality food and un-interested service come to the Ship!”

“Stayed in Room 2 which was small. Lock on room door difficult to open and close (fire regulations ) No tea, coffee, milk or sugar but was rectified when we asked. Stairs leading to accomodation from outside needed sweeping as covered in moss and leaves.Bed very uncomfortable and stained , needs replacing. Didnt sleep to well on bed and because of traffic noise. Bar food was excellent and cost for food and drinks reasonable. Staff were friendly and accomodating. Unfortunately i think the accomodation side is neglected and more effort put into pub side.”
