Customer Review Summary

The carvery is what reviewers discuss most, and opinion is split sharply. Several describe rubbery beef, rock-solid stuffing, greasy Yorkshire puddings, soggy roast potatoes, and dry or burnt peas and carrots, with the mash the one item praised more than once. A few say gravy ran out or was watery, and sauce dishes sat empty. One reviewer says the beef was an odd colour and that the manager dismissed the complaint and offered only a dessert. Another reports staff who weren't bothered and only said they would temp check the food. One reviewer says the carvery has improved, with a better range of vegetables and tasty roast potatoes, and another found it lovely despite limited vegetables. Beyond the carvery, reviewers mention burnt bacon on burgers, burnt pigs in blankets, a scampi portion that looked small, wings called inedible, and steak night with no steak. Waits of 40 minutes or close to an hour for food come up. Staff draw mixed comments, with several calling them friendly or lovely, and one reviewer with a low fat diet was given a jacket potato and grilled chicken breast after the usual cutoff for jacket potatoes.

“Very quiet when we went. Carvery had limited vegetables on offer but was lovely. Food direct from kitchen was beautiful. Dog friendly. Indoor play area is quite small but there is a big one outside. We had a 40% off voucher which made 3ad 2ch including drinks around £45.”

“Very warm and friendly staff from the greeter who also served us, the chef who brought out our food and kept us updated to the young lady who helped serve us at our table they were all so happy and smiley with lovely friendly tones of voice, they were so welcoming. They were so accommodating, I have gallstones and have to eat a low fat diet while I wait for gallbladder removal and they never made me feel awkward or like I was asking to much to facilitate this, they made me a jacket potato/ no butter with beans and a grilled chicken breast even thought the jacket potato was supposed to stop being served at 3pm and we got there at 5:30pm. I really appreciate that they accommodated this for me. The restaurant and the toilet facilities were very clean and well presented. We were advised on arrival that we would have a 45min to 1hour wait for food ordered from the kitchen but even though we were a large party of 19 we were all served much quicker than this and everyone was happy with their food. Thank you for looking after us so well, we would definitely recommend and will visit again next time we holiday in cleethorpes.”

“Booked online as fancied a meal instead of fish and chips after our day in Cleethorpes. Opted for carvery. It was supposed to be freshly cooked. Where shall I start. The Yorkshire puddings were flat, roast potatoes were a mixture of freshly cooked and reheated, carrots were nearly a mush, gravy like water. The guy who carved the meat must have the world record for the thinnest slicing and small portion ever. My plate had a chip in it. This has to be the worst carvery I've ever had. Only thing I can say about this place is the Manager was pleasant and polite. Having worked in this kind of hospitality myself I think the staff need retraining or replaced. I didn't bring it up with the manager as couldn't be bothered after no one checking if our meals were OK and wanted to get home and thought I'd leave an honest review. Wouldn't go back.”

“Took my three children, we had a pasta for a child and two small carvery’s and a large. Unfortunately it’s been a while since we visited which used to be good, now to say it’s definitely not up to standard anymore is probably kind. Staff once more were brilliant but firstly premises looks dated, unkept, paint off walls in places. Even many of the chairs look to be on their last legs. Now the food and this is hard as it used to be a good carvery but this time not even two out of ten. My children couldn’t even bite the Yorkshire pudding, knife’s that blunt they wouldn’t cut it.. stuffing more like a rubber ball. Rest of the food can’t even say average as it just wasn’t. Only good part the mash potato. I hope they can pull it back around, firstly the brewery needs to come and take a look and throw some money into the place. Take a look at its sister pub up the road, The pear tree and you can see the difference. 6pm and probably less than 20 people in and we are four of that number. Such a shame, staff need help from the powers above.”
