Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast is the main draw at The Bear Inn, with reviewers describing a trio of meats, tender rare beef, a very good horseradish sauce and a huge Easter Sunday triple roast. A vegan Sunday roast with sautéed cabbage and mushroom gravy also earns praise. Close behind are the burgers, fish and chips, a weekly pie special and mushrooms on toast with truffle, with desserts called the highlight by one diner. Reviewers describe low beams, a wood burning stove and a garden that is beautiful in the sun, and several note it is dog friendly. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and attentive, with one table given a whole tea plate of extra crackling, another served two mains after a kitchen printer error, and dads handed a free beer on Fathers Day. The recurring complaints concern value and range. One reviewer found the butternut squash Wellington small and the vegan doughnuts overcooked and more like dough balls, while another calls the menu limited and mainly burgers, with a glass of apple juice almost five pounds.

“Great food everything felt fresh and well presented, the staff are also super friendly. The atmosphere is great and has a good old fashioned feeling. I only gave it 4 stars as menu is really limited and mainly burgers. Also a glass of apple juice is almost £5. The prices are a bit on the high end.”

“We were a large booking of 4 families with lots of children. The staff were brilliant, looking after everyone and very patient. They even gave a free beer to all the dads in the group as it was Fathers Day. Sunday Roast was a very good size with beef rare and tender. The horseradish sauce was very good! Big helpings for desert too.”

“We had a wonderful experience at The Bear Inn during our visit to Cirencester. It is a stunning 18th-century pub filled with charm, low wooden beams, and a wonderfully cozy, relaxed vibe. The food was absolutely delicious. We had the classic fish and chips and a burger, both of which were perfectly cooked and full of flavour. They also have a surprisingly great selection beers on tap.The staff were incredibly welcoming, attentive, and friendly from the moment we walked in.”

“I wish I could give 5 stars! The vegan Sunday roast was absolutely delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The sautéed cabbage was particularly impressive, cooked beautifully and complemented the rest of the vegetables perfectly. The mushroom gravy was lovely too and tied everything together wonderfully. My only feedback would be regarding the butternut squash Wellington portion size, which felt quite small compared to the rest of the meal. I mentioned this during our visit, as a slightly more generous portion would make the vegan option feel even better value. We also decided to try the vegan doughnuts and had a bit of a giggle when they arrived! We were expecting traditional doughnuts with a hole in the middle and a larger size, but they were more like dough balls. They were slightly overcooked for our taste, but the Biscoff filling was absolutely delicious and made for a very tasty dessert. Dog friendly too which is a bonus! Overall, we had a lovely experience, enjoyed the food, and would happily return 🤩🍩”

“We visited on Sunday afternoon with friends who were visiting from Australia. We wanted to show them a proper Sunday roast.....and that's what we had. It was more expensive because of where you are in the country but was excellent quality and the trio of meats went down very well. The staff were attentive and friendly, especially when we asked for a little bit more crackling and we were given a whole tea plate more! The portions were generous and so we had to skip dessert; I have my eye on the lemon possett if we get to go back! :)”
