Quick info
About The Market Café
Sited in the centre of the Market Hall with no walls of its own, The Market Café is a café on Market Place in Chesterfield. There are no table menus, so you order at the counter and staff bring food and drink over to your table. Sandwiches are made to order, with children's options, and the counter holds cakes alongside coffees and teas supplied by the Northern Tea Merchants. Soya milk, decaf and gluten free options are available. Seating is spread out rather than packed in tightly, leaving room for buggies on the lower level, and high chairs are there for families with young children. A step-free entrance serves visitors with mobility needs. The café runs on walk-ins, with no booking taken. Hot drinks can be poured into a takeaway cup for anyone carrying a drink off site. It opens Monday to Saturday during the day and closes on Sundays.

Customer Review Summary
The caveat is real, if less frequent. One reviewer reports two failed visits, first being told bacon sandwiches were only served on market days, then arriving at 14:00 to find only buns left. Another describes a Saturday wait for drinks, a cold coffee in a paper mug, and toast with frozen butter and a plastic knife to spread it.

“Have gone to this cafe twice now 1st time asked for a bacon sandwich and was told they didn't serve them only on market days. 2nd time arrived at 14:00, and was told they had nothing left in food only buns, the cafe is supposed to be open when the market hall is, my advice avoid this cafe due to pathetic none existent service.”

“Wonderful surprise in a very rainy Chesterfield, we had Blueberry Muffin with a Latte reasonable price but everything was so delicious with a smile too. I do like a smile 😃”

“Small cafe with food at reasonable prices. Food: 4.5/5 - The food was great as you might've gessed. Limited on the range of foods; (though was space that can't be helped); but plenty of drinks to choose from. ☕ Hospitality: 5/5 - service was great. They were caring and thoutfull to my needs; (checking if they had what I fancied); and there the bunch that love to see regulars.😄 Building: 5/5 - the cafe technically dosent have any walls cause its based in the centre of the market hall; (probably hence the name). 😅 Despite that. With the space that they have; they keep it modern and very well clean.”
