About Mowgli Street Food Cheltenham
Mowgli Street Food Cheltenham is an Indian restaurant in Cheltenham, at Unit 5B St Margaret's Rd, serving tiffin-style sharing plates built around Indian street food. Dogs are allowed, so diners can bring a pet along for a meal. The menu is made for passing plates around the table, and a sharer menu for two covers the format for smaller parties. Butter chicken sits among the mains for anyone who wants a single dish of their own. The restaurant opens daily. Lights line the walls, with twinkle lights running along them and across the centrepieces.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often return to the butter chicken, singled out in the sharer menu alongside the house chicken curry and black lentil dahl, while one reviewer calls the sticky wings the best they have had. Several describe friendly, attentive staff, a late dinner that was still buzzing, and a beautiful room with twinkle lights and swing seats. Close behind is the service charge, which two reviewers dislike, one saying the automatic service and charity charge left them feeling uneasy. Food is the main split. Two reviewers who know Indian cooking found the butter chicken tasteless and sweet, with one citing a mutton curry containing chickpeas and sugar, and another describing a paneer gravy as bitter. One reviewer waited nearly 15 minutes for ice cream while the table sat uncleared, with grandchildren growing restless, and a few mention small portions for the price. One birthday table was brought a brownie gift, though its zero charge appeared on the bill before the surprise arrived.

“Amazing food as always! Lovely friendly staff. Bit of a cock up with the timing of a lovely birthday brownie gift. Really appreciated it thank you but saw the £0 charge for it on my bill before the ‘surprise’ arrived! Such a pretty venue but no real atmosphere as it was quiet, being lunchtime. Not a problem for us at all, just sharing. Really hate the automatic service charge and charity charge!!!!! The staff were so lovely I didn’t want to offend. I don’t want to have this impingement at the end of a service I’m paying for!!!!!!”

“Really enjoyed the food and the overall atmosphere. The dishes were full of flavour, arrived quickly and were nicely presented. Staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing. I was especially impressed by the interior decor and ease of payment. The menu offers plenty of choice and it’s a great place to try something a little different. Some portions felt a bit small for the price, but overall it was a very enjoyable meal and I’d happily return.”

“The ambience and first look of the place was wonderful. Staff was polite and courteous. But the main thing, the food was way below average. We ordered one chaat and one chicken starter which was just ok ok. Nothing great. The mains were a butter chicken and mutton curry both were sweet for some reason. The butter chicken was more like some no taste chicken gravy and mutton also had chickpeas in the curry and with sugar, like why!?? The roti which was supposed to be a chapati was fat like kulcha, go thinner bro! Only nice thing was the temple dal rice from kids menu which my kids liked. I being a tourist and having authentic Indian food taste buds would not recommend it for fellow Indian tourists craving Indian food on their visit to England. It will be disappointing. The food here is to perhaps cater to local taste buds which are more used to milder spices and sweeter Pallette.”

“Absolutely fantastic food, Phoebe one of our waitresses gave great recommendations on what mains to get. Maddies was another waitress who was friendly and also chipped in with food recs. the food itself, amazing, best wings ever (sticky wings) curries were on point. will be going to our more local restaurant”

“The vibe and service are good, but the food isn't worth what we paid. The names are fancy, but the taste is below average. Not authentic Indian food at all. So I will not recommend any South Asian people to try this, the dish names might trick you. We've ordered Butter chicken & Paneer Gravy, I think it's the most common dish in the UK. But they gave us weird chicken gravy without salt in it And the Paneer Gravy was a bit bitter. Food's quite pricey (£25 a head).”

“Mowgli is all about how Indians eat at home and on their streets. She was born to feed the raw need Indians have for tiffins full of fresh bright intense flavour. Mowgli is not about the intimate, hushed dining experience. It is about the smash and grab zing of healthy, light, virtuosic herbs and spices.”
